The best rim protectors in the league

Post#1 » by peZt » Tue Dec 27, 2016 4:03 pm

Found this interesting graph on Reddit. Some expected names on top but I did not expect Embiid to be the best. Crazy that he is already this good on both ends of the floor in his rookie season after not playing for 2 years

The lower and further to the right the better

Well, I hope that can put to rest that Kevin Love is a terrible defender argument.

I don't think anyone questioned Embiid's talent when he was drafted—merely his ability to stay healthy. I'd like to see a bigger sample size though from Embiid before I take Gobert off the top of my list as the top rim protector though.

And lmfao Dwight Powell.

Also can you imagine if the 76ers drafted Porzingis instead of Okafor? Not only are Embiid and Porzingis a match made in heaven offensively, but also good luck scoring against these two inside.

This job actually cements Kevin Love as being a terrible rim protector.

No it cements him not being a shot blocker but above average in terms of opposing teams shooting % around the rim. Just because you dont block a ton of shots doesnt mean you are not a good rim protector and force tough shots/alter them. Just because you dont get a lot of interceptions doest mean you are a bad cornerback.

That would be a nasty frontcourt. Twin towers 2.0?

Draymond is only 6'7 that is pretty damn special to have a guy that size who is a really really good rim protector.

We all know now that KP is a force to be reckoned with when protecting the rim. Problem is when stretch 4's have to pull him away.

Insane, best future in the league by far. Damn shame.

Nah, with a small sample size like that for a guy who doesn't block or alter shots and doesn't have a big defensive rep, it's very likely noise. Sabonis might have a bright future, but I doubt he's top five in ROY consideration right now.

Yeah he just goes semi vertical and at a perfect timing so when you go up you just collide with his chest and miss because of the impact.
He is pretty thick so that affects the shot.

Why does blocks/36 matter? You can protect the rim without blocking shots

Rudy's stats are always going to be somewhat misleading, as teams often just flat out quit going at him half-way through the 1st quarter. Fans love to compare their guys to Gobert based on block stats, and come away believing their guy is just as good or at least very close.
New York said Mitchell wasn't the guy you trade the sink for, then they traded it for Mikal, lol.

If you're looking it at from that perspective, he falls right around the middle. He's nothing more than mediocre at best. The only thing that's evident is your fan eye goggles.
