How close is Ben Simmons from playing?

Ben Simmons (foot) played point guard during some 5-on-0 drills at Tuesday's practice.

How long does it usually take a player to go from no contact to nba game ready?

Hope is within a month (Simmons indicated that he hoped to before AS break). He began traveling with the team to Boston, has been doing drills and participating in warm ups prior to games as well as practicing solo - until today, that is.

No official timeline though, probably won't get too much forewarning before debut.

I'd be happy if Simmons got a solid 10-15 games in before the season ended

Honestly, I don't want much more than that because then they might win a few more games

He should sit out this season and come back next. No reason to rush him back mid season

Its not rushing him back if hes fully healed and has his conditioning at a respectful level.

Simmons has to come back this year... the team has to know whether Simmons will work at PG before they go to the next draft.

He easily will, it was obvious before he got hurt that's his skill set. Not to mention now that we have Giannis setting the example we won't have to hear why Simmons "isn't a pg and is really just a sf/pf."

Oh there is absolutely no doubt Simmons will work at PG. People keep wanting to say he is a point forward... he isn't. He is a point guard 100% through and through in the Magic Johnson mould.

It was actually a travesty what happened to him at LSU with Johnny Jones played him at the forward spots. He basically never played him at the 1 spot... the only time Simmons had the ball in his hands was if he got the defensive rebound himself. In Simmons documentary "One and Done" there was a bit where his agent Rich Paul called him before the start of a game and said the coach had to play him at the 1 and put the ball in his hands... and Simmons was frustrated and said he knows but there is nothing he can do about it. I don't think we got to fully see how good Simmons can be yet based on what we saw in College.

I don't think Philly need to test him out in regular season games this year, just like they sat Noel and Embiid for entire seasons it worked out ok, let the player heal properly, while watching and learning the NBA pace. Also insurance $ will be a decider.

Sixers game against the Rockets on January 27th was just flexed into primetime 8PM slot and shortly afterward Simmons posted this on instagram...

Nothing official and that seems sort of rushed given his rehab to date, but January 27th may be the day. We'll see - could have very well just been referring to the game and not actually alluding to playing in it.

There is no advantage to sitting out longer than you have to with this sort of injury. When it's healed, it's healed. Sitting out an entire season for this injury would be like sitting out 3 months with a sprained ankle. Just pointless.

why would they be all coy about it though?

you'd think announcing that he will be playing in that game as early as possible would be in their best interest as far as hype/ratings go
