I just made a thread about this yesterday.

This is a great idea...not one person has made a decent point as to why not. I made a post with almost the same idea yesterday except the top seed could chose anyone in any round of the playoffs and so on. Some people don't seem bright enough to wrap there heads around the concept and all the possibilities though. Think it through before you write and embarrass yourself.

The draft seeding can remain the same even if the top 4 teams get to pick their opponents. Imagine how motivated the team pick #8 would be. Not like we would ever see a number 8 seed run the table and go to the Finals. You would need to be an 8th seed playing against Alonzo Mourning and Tim Hardaway for that to happen.

So teams can throw games so they can pick there opponents? Their IS an issue and THIS fixes it without any issues that I have been able to see. Can you provide any reasons at all?

Because that would be too much fun, they should also be able to pick if they play a 5 or 7 game series in the first round.

I love the idea. Theres been way too much tanking going on in the East between the bottom half to land Boston. That would never happen if the top teams just got to choose

Except that will leave one team with no one to play in the first round. Can't say I am fan of this idea but if it were to be done then it would have to be the top 2 seeds getting the bye. Or do you mean both #1's get the bye and the rest of the 14 teams then are seeded against each other in the format already being used? I don't see that happening either but I do like the idea of it.

I like the idea of 1st seeds picking all the bottom 4 seeds. It seems like there should be more reward for winning a lot of (meaningless) regular season games.

I like it from the perspective of the team that was chosen being angry and playing with that much more of an edge.

Like, “oh wow they picked us...they think we’re an easy match up? They think we suck huh? Ok, let’s give them hell and make them sorry they picked us.”

You are only thinking about the first round. If you get past that you may move up the pick ladder.

Because the regular season matters, so the team that finishes 5th should be rewarded with an easier first-round matchup.

Home court advantage in case you end up playing against a 6-8 seed in the 2nd or 3rd round. Also most years if you 'tank' as a 6th or 7th seed you will miss the playoffs. For example if this format was in place in the west this year, OKC would have missed the playoffs if they even tanked one or two games trying to get 8th seed for a better draft pick. Same goes for Denver, San Antonio, New Orleans, Minnesota.

This could be fun.

Imagine if Celtics or Cavs had best record and intentionally picked a 2 seeded Raptors just to get in their heads and cause the Raptors to collapse even faster than normal in the playoffs.

There is also the chance for teams to choose their opponent based on timing. For example: Maybe Houston thinks their only competition in the west is GS. Maybe they want to play them right away while Curry is out. A real interesting twist.
