Hypothetical: A team offers a top-10 pick for Brad Stevens...

Let’s say the Knicks offer the #9 pick for Stevens. Who says no?

The Celtics. He's more valuable than a standard 9 pick. Top 3 pick, that may change things.

Why would a team offer a top 10 pick and say no?

Yeah seriously...and the Celtics aren't trading Stevens even for the #1 overall.

Celtics hang up, he's more valuable.

I think that an elite coach is valuable as much as a top 5 player in the league.

No team would offer a LOTTERY Top 10 pick for a Coach as compensation.

Stevens is too valuable. I wouldn't give him up for anything short of a generational player. He's gonna be like Popovich where he provides decades of sustainable contending just on his coaching skills alone

I wouldn't even trade him for the #1 pick. He's 41, I am pretty sure he is really happy in Boston, he could legit become the next Pop and be our coach for decades. This is way more valuable to me than any prospect in the world.

Makes no sense for either team.

Yeah, I can't see Celtics trading Stevens for a pick, even if it's #1

Brad joined the celtics when they were a ~25 win team. We are now a 55 win team. You don't think lottery teams this year would like the same for their franchise?

But the Celtics say no FOR SURE.

GMs feel otherwise.

A chance at a FRANCHISE player outweighs any staff to them. Many of them would feel staff more expendable than a possible Franchise player.

Most Execs anyway...

But, don't get me wrong, I understand the logic of where you're coming from... But, like I said above, I can't foresee from a value standpoint an GM/Exec & Owner signing off moving a Top 10 LOTTERY Draft Pick for ANY staff member as compensation.

The fanbase would likely riot. Especially if they turned out like expected or better.

It's easy to say otherwise on a messageboard, but many (if not most) Execs would say no to such compensation.

How come? If you look what are Popovic and Stevens doing its not. Guys like them get the most out of what they have be it stars or roleplayers and elevate the play of a team while dismantling badly coached teams even if they have more talent.

Look how everyone expects Celtics to defeat the Buck even as Buck have a generational player with decent talent around him, while Celtics have a bunch of kids, roleplayers and Horford past his prime. Look how everyone is still scared of the Spurs. Look how everyone respects the Heat even as they dont have that much talent on the roster. Elite coaches are no joke.

Starplayers are more valuable than Coaches in the NBA. Top 10 is a stretch but I would do it for a top 5 pick in a strong draft. #1 you'd be stupid not to take it

Too much risk vs. reward. We know Stevens is a great coach. A top 10 pick, even a #1 pick, can be a straight up bust. You gonna trade Stevens for Anthony Bennet or Greg Oden?

A more appropriate question is would you trade Stevens for a young, proven prospect? Ben Simmons? Joel Embiid? Greek Freak?
