Spo
Pop (arguable he's washed but he's still an all timer)
Kerr
Nurse?
Malone

Then you got guys like Tyronn Lue or I suppose CoTY Mike Brown in the mix. But there aren't 5 coaches I'm taking over Malone right now

A coach can be washed within one/two seasons?

Pop was indeed washed btw. Damn all my hot takes be early early

The thing I appreciate about Mike Malone’s coaching through the years is his player development. He’s able to see the long game and doesn’t cave to pressure to win regular season games or “hand out” minutes. He definitely uses playing time and minutes as a way to correct behavior on the court effectively. Ranking coaches is tough but I would expect winning a chip this last year moved him up in some rankings. His goal is dynasty which I appreciate as a fan.

My gut says yes. Most people forget about it now, but Malone made a big impression on me in his short stint with the Kings. He had Boogie Cousins looking good for the first time in his entire career. And right as I started thinking the Kings finally found something, they fired him for not playing with enough pace I believe it was. They were 11-13 when they fired him, and they finished at 28-54.

Prophetic. Hats off to Denver. Can really see the difference between a tier 1 coach like Malone and a tier 4 one like Ham in how they manage schemes and timeouts

He was also the #1 assistant and guy who did the actual coaching for the Warriors in the first 2 years (out of 3) of Mark Jackson's tenure.
Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?

Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

No, he is not a top 5 coach. His refusal to continue to play Jeff Green in these playoffs is evidence of that. I wouldn't say he is a bad coach, but he certainly has questionable rotations and can't draw up plays.

Welcome!

Yes, because keeping a team engaged and focused on the task at hand is like 90% of the job

I would be a top 5 coach if I had Jokic. I mean, Malone is quite good, don't get me wrong. But come on now. It's Jokic on the court.

Twenty fanbases think they have a top five coach.

The other ten believe their coach is the worst in the league and should be fired.

Yes, he proved it in Sactown and he's proving it in Denver. Maybe he isn't the best X's and O's guys but he is a great player's coach

I mean he's good but the main difference is I'd take the Nuggets top 2 over the Lakers top 2, also the Nuggets have more size overall in their starting 5. Both those things are hard for the Lakers to overcome.

He's pretty good. Not sure if he's top 5.

I don’t know the answer, but Jokic makes a coach look good.

The only silver lining of this sheer gulf in coaching talent will be when the Lakers let Ham go

he's pretty good. someone like doc would've given up down 20. and if he does cut it then he would inexplicably bench his impact players.

He came out with two very good game plans in each game. Really don’t know what more you’d expect unless you get a Pop or Spo level guy.

He's only a good gameplan guy. We've seen it last year

Dude is missing the timeout management, and ad-lib draw up a killer play out of a timeout stuff. When the gameplan goes to ****, there's no plan B, and if there is, it's a really **** plan B.

He's always going to only be a defensive assistant HC on coaching potential

That’s the most important part to me and where coaches show their biggest value. Honestly Ham looks like one of the best gameplan guys.

I thinks fans opinion on coaching is all perception. People swore Nash could coach and gave him every excuse in the book. Ham is 100 times better coach than him. At some point fans perception becomes reality.
