Wemby DPOY

Post#1 » by moderndarwin » Sat Oct 21, 2023 2:41 pm

i’ve seen enough this kid is generationally good at defense. He can guard jump shooters and protect the rim and has great intuition and timing. moves his feet well enough to cover the ground needed to stop people trying to drive by him. it’s pretty amazing to watch. unfair really. wiggins was absolutely victimized a few times last game.

He won't reach the 65 game minimum to be eligible, at least not this season.

In the future as he bulks up, learns the game, and the Spurs let him loose a bit more he will likely win DPOY.

I don’t believe in god but I’ll pray to him it keeps Wemby off the injury report.

Absolutely insane potential.

He looked like he effected the offense of the Warriors more than any player in years. If healthy, he’s my prediction for DPOY, which is just crazy. I don’t think a rookie has ever won it.

I think he'll be a candidate. He may actually be more effective at defense in the first half of the season as the league will still be adjusting to him.

Bruh, he averaged 20 points in France last year and was once in 50 years defensively already as 19 year old, how would he be too weak for todays NBA? I know NBA is better, but not because of physicality for starters, and he was one of the those talents, where it is clear in the NBA, he will be just better from day one. But touche on admitting on having a very unpopular and wrong opinion in the past.

I spend entire year saying slow down on his offensive productions, but his defense is legit, he has like 10 feet aura around him where in that circle, everyone was scared to attempt a shot, cause he is swating everything, the combination of length and quickness is first time to be seen in the NBA.

Crazy part is, he is just getting faster and faster, he wasn't so quick footed a year ago, he really wasn't, He will peak and start declining soon I guess, but now he is better prospect than even months ago I would say. He is like opposite ZIon where the moment he got drafted, his explosiveness faded away.

It's all about health as Embiid and Kawhi can tell you. With that frame he needs to bulk up.

My hope is he is able to add bulk before suffering a serious injury.

yeah, if he'll stay healthy and play enough he's likely to win.
he probably won't get it unless it will be in an obvious landslide, because of league politics but he's likely to deserve it

all the talk about physicality is just false, there's no physicality in the NBA anymore in that sense
yes, most big guys are considerably stronger than him but it just doesn't matter as much as it used to, the way the game is played now

and his impact on the perimeter would be a total outlier in the league, no1 will come close

he's got a good shot to win it

there's no need for him to bulk up, def not right away and certainly not in a major way. a bit of bulk, sure but it'll happen as he acclimates himself to the NBA lifestyle, he's just 19..

With good health he will probably deserve it. You can't take a jump shot anywhere near this guy.

Age has nothing to do with it. Chet also looked dominant and then got injured. His listed weight is basically the same despite being taller.

He will be playing against guys 30-40 pounds heavier every night with a much lower center of gravity. That is going to take its toll. Golbert is what 260 at 7-1. That should be the minimum especially if he wants to be extremely active on the defensive end fighting for rebounds and operating as a rim defender. Last I heard his reported weight was 210.

They're playing him at the 4, he was guarding Wiggins last night. Outside of maybe 3 or 4 guys there are very few power forwards that will have 20lbs on him.

He is going to have to play center at some point. They may be playing at the 4 to help keep him healthy which is smart.

He's 19, he's not going to put on 20-30lbs in the next few months so he won't need to play center yet. I'm sure they'll do it based on matchups like when teams go small but for now there's no rush. Let his body develop like Giannis did over time and 2-4 yrs from now he'll be a full time C.
