He can be Gobert like already. Can add his jumper with time.

Agree, he's a center. He's like super Gobert, better jumper/range, better shot blocker, can switch to perimeter players on D, better ball handler. Not sure how some are hating on him in this thread.

He's the best prospect I've seen since LeBron. When he adds a little strength inside (along with his face up jumper which will improve) He's gonna be an absolute nightmare. If they play him at C the rest of the season he could lead the league in Rebounding as a Rookie, is the best shot blocker in the league, and is already scoring around 20ppg

I haven't seen anything so far that would make me think he is overhyped. his instincts and competitiveness are very high for such a young kid. the highlights are insane, but everything he does looks sustainable, and repeatable.

his three point shot needs work, but you notice when you watch that his balance isn't always right, and that he takes too many quick ones right now. he also hasn't figured out the "extra pass" to a teammate who is a better shooter than him with his feet already set. he will learn and improve.

we don't have a lot of pieces that fit with him at the moment. i really like Sochan but its going to be awkward with him and Wemby unless something changes. we need a guard that can play fast, recognize what a mismatch he is, and get him the ball all over the court.

i think his ideal match would be jason kidd, with one big body and two shooters.

Wemby has officially surpassed Chet in defensive EPM. Considering he's played 19/27 games out of position, I feel comfortable saying Victor is the more impactful defender. Not by a crazy amount or anything, but he's just got an extra 6 inches of wingspan and standing reach on Chet. Just a bigger defensive radius. So utterly disruptive.

Here's a comparison of defensive stats:

Victor Wembanyama:

- 3.2 blocks per game
- 1.3 steals per game
- 2.9 deflections per game
- Holds opponents -11.3% FG below average within 0-6 feet (3.4 defensive FGM / 6.8 defensive FGA)
- +3.5 defensive EPM (4th in the NBA)
- -7.3 defensive ON/OFF rating

Chet Holmgren:

- 2.7 blocks per game
- 0.8 steals per game
- 1.4 deflections per game
- Holds opponents -11.4% FG below average within 0-6 feet (4.9 defensive FGM / 9.7 defensive FGA)
- +3.4 defensive EPM (7th in the NBA)
- -1.3 defensive ON/OFF rating

He's also been on a minutes restriction the last 3 games otherwise the numbers would be higher. It's safe to say he's delivering on the hype. Any criticism on him (or Chet) is mind-boggling.

Spurs with 22 wins last season without Wemby. Their winning percentage this year is much much worse. Not a game changer and Chet is a better player.

Chet is a complementary piece who thrives off the space Shai generates... Who's the equivalent player on the Spurs?

Yeah, but they have also gone from the absolute worst team in the league at defending shots and among the worst at defensive rebounding and forcing turnovers to visible improvement in those regards. The team is considerably better on defense when Wemby is on the court.

Their offense is trash, but they were the 2nd-worst O in the league last year as well. He's very specifically changing the game for them, they're just bad enough that it matters only so much.

Four blocks at half at Memphis

including these two on Ja and JJJ to start the game, pretty sweet:

That stuff is irrelevant. Only important question...how good is Wemby at post ups?

I know you like big men and strength, so I was wondering what you were thinking about Wemby's body growth so far. He's clearly a bit more buff than he was 6 months ago but it's not a huge transformation either. But last night on that block on Giannis I was impressed how he was able to absorb contact from a full speed bump from one of the strongest guy in the league and instantly recover to jump and deny the dunk. That kind of play happened a few times last season in French Pro A and he got sent flying away a couple times.

He's up to 230 pounds, which is 15 pounds more than when he was drafted. He's got at least another 20 pounds in him easily. 30+ if he follows a similar path set by Giannis, Anthony Davis, Embiid, Jokic, Moses Malone, and Kareem. KAJ is the closest in general I'd say; he was 240-250 before beginning weights in the mid '80s and getting up to 265-270.

Increase strength and power, adding 20-30+ pounds of size. Do this while maintaining lean and athletic body fat percentage, flexibility, and fluidity. A 250 to 270-pound Wemby will be able to establish strong positioning in the paint and not get pushed off his spots easily. He'll be able to handle overall physicality and finish through contact so he can take full advantage of his size.

He's now started at C for 21 games.. these are his stats:

27mpg, 22ppg @ 58.9% TS, 10.5rpg, 3.6apg, 0.9spg, 3.6bpg, 3.3topg

Man is absolutely killing it at C, by far the best spot for him.

In the 27mpg over those 21 games he's actually got an average +/- of 0.. as in Spurs play to a .500 level when he's playing already.

What an absolute clown take

30% win-loss record last year. Now at an amazing 22%. Yep, the other teams are shivering in their boots. Insult me as much as you like and it’s cute to wait till they win a game to reply, but Chet is getting his stats on a winning team and is much more efficient.
