Poor Dejounte Murray was in Herb Prison last night. Dude was in his front, side and back pocket. Just relentless

Changed the poll to bigs. Let me know what you think.

Kessler and Nurkic were the toughest ommissions. Kessler has been good but Utah has stopped being a serious team. They also don't play him big minutes. Nurkic has been surprisingly sturdy as an anchor in Phoenix, I just couldn't get him over these other names.

I left off guys disqualified for games played. Porzings, Mobley, Draymond were the biggest names.

I also wasn't sure how positions were going to shake out so I just kept the options open to naming 4 bigs.

Kessler and Nurkic were the toughest ommissions. Kessler has been good

According to the stats.nba.com Defense Dashboard (individual shot defense data), for all FGAs <10' of the basket, Kessler is currently 3rd best in the league for all 109 players in the league having faced 300+ FGAs, allowing a 48.0% FG% and a -11.6% FG% allowed differential. Only Gobert at 46.7% and Porzingis at 47.6% are better.

For comparison Jokic allows a 59.0% FG%, Valanciunas a 59.5% FG%, and Nick Richards a 60% FG%.

One of the best rim protector per minute in the league this year. Just hard to put him over other guys, since he's a 23mpg bench guy playing for the 28th ranked defense in the league. Even when Utah was good, they tilted heavily towards offense. Kessler and Dunn are the only good defenders on the roster, and they both played limited minutes.

The last two months Ayton would be top 5 .

The first few months Ayton would be bottom 5

Isaac was giving up 38.9% when he was the closest defense. That's guarding the perimeter and interior.

I like that Wemby is a isht-talker in France. Only a matter of time before he starts it with English sources. I like my stars to start fires.

It's pretty reasonable though. Gobert is almost 32. Right now he has a big experience advantage, and a weight/strength advantage. Victor's tools, both physical and mental are on another level compared to Rudy's.

The Spurs will have to build an elite defense around him. Just like MVP most often goes to a team near the top of the standings, the DPOY is basically always on a top 5 defense. The only time I remember that not happening was Marcus Camby in 2011, and that's widely regarded as one of the worst DPOY votes ever.

I'm curious to see how many votes Wemby gets this year. He's clearly already one of the single best defensive pieces in the league, but we're talking about the 24th ranked defense (even if they have been better in the second half of the season).

I wouldn't be surprised if Wemby won it next year, but the Spurs have at least a little work to do to put him proper contention.

The Pels defense tonight sans Herb against a really poor offense looked like a turnstile. Dude covers up so much.

Big Al is the man but there's too many good bigs to award a part-time starter playing under 30mpg.

Like if he was way better than some of these starting bigs I could see still voting for him, but I don't see Horford as quite that elite. He's definitely a still a big you're happy to have on your team and can trust defensively as both a matchup defender and a rim protector.

I don't get the tweet's point about specific lineups...

Goldsberry was comparing Wemby's on/off to entire teams defensive ratings not specific players thats why Hoopvenue used JWill and OG as examples of players with even better numbers than Wembys to show Goldsberrys approach was flawed.

Not that he has merit over many other players listed here but I just gotta throw Derek Lively II into this, he's a complete defensive game changer for the Mavs.
