General 2023-24 Season Discussion (and videos, gifs thread)

Post#1 » by Deivork » Fri Nov 3, 2023 7:55 am

Thought a thread like this was missing, to talk about the season as a whole.

Mods sticky this maybe? Thanks.

Purpose of topic.

- Discussing the season as a whole, the progress

- Discussing things that may not warrant a new topic, but are still worth leaving a comment on

- Posting videos, gifs, media... that is interesting... whether it's amazing plays or just funny material

Suns haven't looked great so far (2-3). Neither have the Bucks (2-2). Durant in particular, I'm not liking too much what I'm seeing... but they've had injuries. He was -17 in +/- last night in Wemby's breakout night (38/10/2/1/2 with good shooting %), for example. Little defense is coming from KD.

Raptors (2-4) have had the Sixers twice in the second night of a back to back in less than a week. Seems bad scheduling. Playing well though. Sixers aren't playing bad themselves, managed to trade Harden (succesfully imo), Maxey is rising and are 3-1. Could be worse.

Knicks and Cavs have struggled a bit so far (2-3), but I think they'll both be fine. Hawks and Magic have played surprisingly well (3-2), beating some good teams. Banchero is looking pretty good, had a game winner last night. Dejounte Murray playing well too.

Minnesota (2-2) is the only team that has managed to beat the Nuggets so far. Seems they match-up really well against them. Edwards is beasting. Jokic & Nuggets don't seem to slow down (4-1) despite this one loss and their bench looks fine so far.

This should be pinned! We had a gifs/pics/videos/funny stuff general thread before, no idea what was it unpinned.

Warriors and Pelicans have started strong and are both 4-1. The Dubs seems to be gaining their mojo back, Steph still playing at a very high level and Klay had a game winner. Zion is healthy and at least putting up stats. Ingram missed 2 games but it seems it's a minor injury.

Celtics and Mavs are the only two remaining undefeated teams (4-0) and are looking very good. Celtics in particular have impressed me so far, but I might be biased :D . Porzingis already looks like a steal and the White-Holiday backcourt is killer and a clear upgrade. No injuries so far so fingers crossed.

Mavs are fueling on offense. Luka doing Luka things, Hardaway is back to his best level and Grant Williams fit right away... Still wish the Cs would've kept him. What has impressed me more in Dallas is rookie C Derek Lively (13/12/3/1/1 on 78 FG%!), so mature and gelling with Luka. Watch out!

Spurs and Thunder (3-2) started strong. Spurs are surprising and beat the Suns twice... Wemby already looks amazing. Chet doing pretty well himself as well. Sacramento is 2-2, but their 2 losses were against the Dubs, one very close losing by one to a Klay bucket.

suggested bring that thread back.

So I guess this topic could serve both as a place to have general and random discussions about in-season happenings and progress and also as a repository for some users who are more active on social media and stuff to plaster here some funny images, gifs, videos that pop up from games.

It will ne interesting to see if coaches are going to play these in season tournament games like playoff games, as far as rotations and minutes, or are they not really going to care and play everyone like a normal early season game.

Group stage commences tonight, ending Nov 28th. Tournament bracket goes from December 4th thru the 9th.

I'm interested to see how much viewership increases, if at all.
And if the games feel more competitive (from player intensity standpoint) than last year's games.

Does this tournament thing count for the regular season? Like wins losses and stats?

This is from the season opener (Nuggets/Lakers), posting for anyone who hasn't seen and because it'll prove to be the best fan moment this season.

Yes, check it out. It's the very same games. The only extra game would be the final if I'm not mistaken. The rest count as RS.

Yeah... I believe they won't make major changes, at least from the beginning. Maybe later if they can advance, they will. Let's say it won't be a top priority

Is Kawhi slimmer? It seemed to me against the Lakers. Did he lose weight to reduce stress on the knees?

Cade Cunningham is simply a slightly bigger D Lo. He will never be an efficient scorer inside of the arc and will never get to the line a lot. Even if he does show that he's an above average shotmaker, if your game is taking and making tough mid range and perimeter jump shots then your never going to be an above average efficiency scorer.

Given his size and the fact that he has more potential to be a better defender I'm open to that idea that Cade could be a solid number 3 for a team rather than a below average one like D Lo.
