They are building around Trae, JJ, and OO. After failing to nab Siakam, that's the right move IMO.

Should probably swing for more off-ball shooters and 3+D players in general, and then maybe nab Tobias in FA.

Yeah... buuuuut I'd probably consider moving the other one too. Or maybe only.

The Hawks biggest issue is that they don't have a rim-running, pick and pop center that Trae needs to thrive. Neither Capela nor Okongwu will ever be that guy. And since neither are really elite shot blockers or defenders they're essentially nearly useless. They have Trae and several 3 and D wings. Center is their biggest need. But there really aren't a lot of options out there tbh.

It's kind of mind-boggling. Shooting is hands-down their greatest need and none of the players they seem to be targeting improve it while their biggest trade piece is arguably their best shooter.

Maybe but they also could have not traded for him. Putting no protection on those pics was wacko.

Goes to show you how lethal NBA offenses have become that a guy with 47/38/83 shooting splits is less efficient than average. The guy just can't get to the line to save his life.

Hawks don't own their picks. They need to send Trae to play with Wemby (absolutely perfect fit), that way the hawks get their picks back since they'd be in the lottery, especially after trading trae. And then build around DJM as the PG, the position he needs to be playing, and other young players and draft early next year and rebuild.

Itll never happen ofc. They'll keep trae. Send djm for a mediocre haul. They won't have their picks so they're gonna draft 15-30 range and just continue being a treadmill team.

If the two first round picks are unprotected, the Hawks would take that deal and run away laughing.

Who would the Spurs trade to get Trae? Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassel? Thats not helping the salary situation at all and would literally turn our team into the Spurs of two years ago.

I don't think Pelinka realizes that the Lakers are heavily dependent on D-lo, they are 0-4 in games he doesn't play this season. If only Pelinka had picked up Beasley's 18-player option and guaranteed Bamba's 10 million, he would have been able to swap Beasley for Murray and keep D-lo. Also the hard cap makes things very difficult.

Who also hasn't been a defensive difference maker since his knee injury, while flat out struggling defensively at the 2 position because he's very weak.

Huh? Murray is shooting 47/38/83 this season. His career high in scoring is 21, also this season. He's definitely not an inefficient volume scorer. Besides that, he's on the team to defend and help take some of the load off Trae. Not score/carry the offense.

The Hawks issues aren't offense, they score plenty. It's that they can't defend anything. If they should trade anyone, it's Trae. He's one of the worst defenders in the league, if not the worst. It's almost impossible to build around that type of player.

Problem is that despite those splits he's still scoring inefficiently this season...56.5% TS when league average is 58.1%...because Murray doesn't get to the line well (FTr 16.9%) and he has been terrible around the rim (55.4% 0-3FT).

And if he's there to defend then he's failing even worse because the hawks give up almost 3 more points per 100 possessions with Murray on the court than with trae. And a lot of defensive metrics have Murray's defense right around Young's...despite other hawks like Bogdanovic & Johnson not being dragged down by the team as a whole.

Bad fit with Trae, who they still see as a franchise player. LOL.

But, it's admitting a mistake (trading one of these non-franchise players at least) and they can reconfig this lineup and maybe get better.

Best case scenario for the Hawks long-term is if they can trade them both.

He's also awful around the rim.

It's a steal for Atlanta either way.

Easier said than done, and virtually impossible when their picks are going to San Antonio.

This is the type of situation where you can really see the genius behind the Spurs as a franchise. They're going to win that trade 10x over when it's all said and done. Hawks are a stick in the mud franchise.
