Which Players are Future TV Voices?

Post#1 » by shrink » Thu Mar 28, 2024 7:25 pm

I don’t listen to a lot of podcasts, but I was curious which current players are eloquent, insightful and entertaining, and likely to transition after their playing days to the media?

I don't know if being eloquent and insightful has much to do with it... But Draymond Green is entertaining and he's going to work in the media after his playing days.

He's Charles Barkley lite but with a lot less humor or wit. He's already been on their broadcasts for better or worse, so he's pretty much a given after his career ends.

I'm sure that you're going to see the likes of Chris Paul, Kevin Durant, and LeBron James all out there in the media landscape once their careers end as well. To what capacity remains to be seen.

Pat Beverly. There was a little taste of it a while back but ESPN is going to hire him when he finally hangs it up

Tyrese Haliburton was the first guy that came to mind. Very articulate and intelligent, I feel like he would also thrive in a leadership role in the NBPA.

I wonder if his fame (infamy?) is a calculated attempt to create a post-playing days “tough guy” role, to get a job on TNT.

I’ve heard JJ Reddick a few times and I like him. Anyone in that mold?

Kendrick Perkins will be the face of ESPN in a few years.

He's already being groomed in the Charles Barkley role.

He sounds like Jeff Van Gundy in IST Finals and I really miss JVG with all this crap commentators we have now.

From the current knicks, I can see Josh Hart going into broadcasting.

CJ McCollum is the most obvious choice given his education in journalism and his experience.

You’re right, and it is horrible, IMHO.

ESPN prefers entertaining clowns these days to motivated insightful hosts helping the audience enjoy the game through new views.

I saw Austin Rivers on NBA Today. He’s smart and probably raised-from-birth as an NBA Insider, but he can’t compete with bombastic (and dumber) performers like Perk in an ESPN or TNT format.

If the Bulls do, you would be complaining to much to ever hear it.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.
