Easter confession time : Our own worst preseason predictions thread

Post#1 » by UcanUwill » Fri Mar 29, 2024 6:51 pm

Season is nearly done, it is time. I had similar thread focusing on highly questioned offseason moves that actually panned out, and the ones that maybe did not. Porzingis was example of move that panned out, Pistons head coaching hiring was one of the examples, where Pistons are probably have a buyers remorse now, adn the move really did not seem to be pan out.

This is a bit different, a bit more personal. Lets bring our own pre season ''Hot takes'' that ended up looking pretty dumb. I steal this idea straight from Zach Lowe, who just had a podcast on this very topic.

I bet I had many terrible Hot takes, and all of those had bad grammar, I know... Can't remember of very terrible ones, tho I sure you could find it. But few that comes to mind for sure, are :

1. Sasha Vezenkov will be better than Trey Lyles right away, straight up....
2. Wembanyama will take a long time to actually be good offensive player, mostly on scoring front.
3. Magic is awful team.

Sasha had his injuries, his rookie season has been very disappointing, I assume he is now out for the season, doing Euroleague fantasy pods, it is easy to forget he is actually in the NBA.
With Wemby, I had no doubt he would score points, but I was certain his efficiency will be terrible, and I dredded the hyped up fans who will end up being disappointed. And Wemby is not the most efficient guy, but I think his rookie season actually, amazingly exceeded expectations. He is shooting better, he scores all the time, and his passing is great.
The very first post in DPOY thread, is me shouting Jonathan Isaak, saying how good he is. And it is true to this day, but in that comment, I did call Magic an awful team, and Isaak being just one of few positives that team had. From time to time, though out the whole season, someone +1 that comment, and I get reminded that I did say Magic are awful. I was a dumb-as

Do YOU have pre season, early season Hot takes that you wish you had the chance to take back?

I thought the Lakers would ride the end of last season momentum into this year and get the 3rd seed

I went so hard for Jahlil Okafor. Not even a hot take. Basically, his whole Duke season I was all the way in.

Man, can't let it go still, it is a shame. One, I think terrible take I had, it is still recent, not off season, rather mid season, I jsut remembered. But I really thought Raptors fleeced the Knicks in that OG deal. I think, Overall Raptors are very happy with the trade and OG did not play a lot, but all Knicks fan I know says that deal was amazing and now they simply hope OG gets healthy.

A real win win.

OG is definitely bizarre with his injury woes. I saw the game where he came back vs. the Blazers live. He was in a LOT of pain.

I was all 'take the over on the Spurs winning 28 games'

Reader - I was wrong.

I was not even if we win all our remaining games will we reach 28 wins wrong.

Rebuilds. Be wary of the quicksands of confidence and hope in youth and inexperience.

But NEXT year...

p.s. Happy Easter!

Could be worse, some people took Pistons over, I think it was 33.5 or something like that for them. That team greatly underperformed .

I thought the raptors would be fighting for a play in spot and the Wizards would win 30-35 games

I thought additions like Gabe Vincent and Christian Wood would’ve made the Lakers a much better regular season team

Never understood why people were high on them. I feel like there was a collective amnesia around their previous season.

I was all in on him too. I thought he could be the next Duncan.

I’m an idiot.

They'd be top 4 seed in last season's west. Suns were the 4th seed with 45 wins. Lakers are on pace to be better than that.

I said Luka Garza would eventually be a starter in our league. I guess we still have time for that one to cook.

I predicted the Cavs starters would play more than 8 games worth of possessions. Not like out loud, but on the inside I predicted it.

Thought Kyrie would do something crazy midseason, like going to Tibet for enlightenment or some **** but he had a really controversy free season.
