Giannis Playoff Injuries

Post#1 » by mdonnelly1989 » Tue Apr 16, 2024 5:03 am

Are we ever going to see Giannis healthy for another playoff series again?

It’s now getting the point of real concern for his legacy and potential. It will be back to back playoffs of serious injury concern

It sucks but I think the odds are against him. Just like with Embiid, Giannis is 30 this year and you don't magically become less injury-prone in your 30s than in your 20s. And while Embiid has very awkward landing mechanics, Giannis's playstyle is extremely physical and not conducive to aging well.

I mean he had a sore butt last season. Are we really excusing another Giannis playoff chokejob with that? To use that as an excuse for anyone, especially a guy who won the title on 1 leg as some Bucks fan would have you believe is just pathetic.

Lol, is this a troll job? Giannis is a made man with his championship win over Phoenix not to mention his other epic playoff performances.

What other epic playoff performances are you talking about? Not even reaching the level Butler showcased against the Celtics in 2022? Getting thoroughly outplayed by KD who has been a joke in the playoffs ever since? Beating a gassed Heat team in 2021 in a series in which he wasn't even the best player on the Bucks and had 4 teammates outscore Butler? Or are you talking about Giannis watching his team on the sidelines close the ECF that same season without him after he got injured with the series tied at 2-2?

The only epic playoff series he had was against a Suns team that if not for injuries was the 4th best team in the west that season at best and had no business even sniffing the Finals. The fact that we have people praising him so much for dominating 36 year old CP3, Booker, Ayton and that meme team just goes to show how sorry Giannis' playoff resume really is for a player of his reputation/caliber.

The Suns got to the Finals by beating Lakers without AD, Nuggets without Murray and MPJ, and then the Clippers without Kawhi. They were up 2-0 in the Finals then choked, losing 4 straight is a complete meltdown on the Suns part.

Giannis one signature playoff series win was against DeAndre Ayton, think about that. He has more meltdown/chokejob than signature win in his playoff career. Giannis gets more leeway because of that one championship against a fraudulent team, but if he and his team flame out again this year we need to start look at him the same way we look at Embiid.

ATG & dominant player but he should be thanking his lucky stars for KD's shoes and the lock down/shortened off season. I remember the media and basketball world was on his case heavily after getting eliminated by the Heat in 2020. Murmurs of him needing to bolt to a bigger market to win yada yada yada..

Fortunately for him and Bucks fans that '21 title essentially "Dirk'd" him in terms of truly being considered a winner after the multiple early exists. His resume as it stands isn't anything to sniff at, he's solidified in the top 20 ever rankings.

Meanwhile Anthony Davis has only missed 1 playoff game in his career.

Let’s stop with this downplaying of the 2021 Suns. They had the third best net rating in the league along with the third best SRS rating. They had the second best record in the West too. They were one of the top teams in the league.

They also had never been to the playoffs before, and lost the next year in the second round to Luka in embarrassing fashion (that mavs team had no business being in the conference finals), then realized the following year they needed a big trade, because they weren't that good. The were a good team in 2021, but were a popular pick to get upset in round 1, and were down in that round until AD got hurt. Then played 2 more Injured teams. Paul/Booker haven't exactly led teams anywhere before or since.

Giannis best playoff series win is against that Suns team though. He's lost to every other good team he's faced in a playoff series, often with home court advantage. I think he gets too much credit for that title, because his playoff resume is very weak without that and didn't include any established teams.

I don’t see why that doesn’t mean we can criticize who he won against and what his personal flaws and issues are as a player. Winning a title doesn’t mean we can’t criticize a players game.

I can still point to things the nuggets and even jokic have as flaw s that could have been problems against another set of opponents

He's had three random contact issues. Would be safer not having guys **** around with his landing area but that's a guard specific protection.

largely though, he's fine and will continue to be much longer than weird critics would like him to be.

What does excuse mean to you? If you mean it as "an obvious reason someone will play worse than expected" then so be it. Anything else and I don't follow. If you're hurt, you're not going to play as well.

So we're now saying it's better to miss the playoffs in the majority of your career than make them and get hurt?

I always love to humiliate a hater with facts.
Let's start.

2022 series vs my Celtics.
Giannis averages:
33.9 points, 14.7 rebounds and 7.1 assists in 7 games.
Post the stats of Butler and the "level" you're talking about. I'll wait.

"Getting thoroughly outplayed by KD"?
Who got thoroughly outplayed?? Your imagination maybe.

2021 Nets vs Bucks in 7 games.
Giannis:
31.9 points, 12.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists on 59% TS.
Game 7:
40 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists on 66% TS.

vs

KD: 35.4 points, 10.3 rebounds , 5.3 assists on 59% TS.
Game 7:
48 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists on 58% TS.

So what's up doc???
Do you have any stats to back your posting or you think that everyone here is 15 years old?

Edit.
Ps. Oh and the 2021 playoffs vs Heat.
The only series in which Budenholzer assigned him on Butler.
Let's see what Butler did 1 on 1 against Giannis and what Giannis(who wasn't the best player on his team  ) did on the other side of the floor.

Butler vs Giannis 1 on 1 in the 4 game series between the Heat and the Bucks(0-4 sweep or 4-0 or whatever).

Butler:
14.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists on 39% TS.

Giannis:
23.5 points, 15 rebounds and 7.9 assists on 50% TS.

So, doc?
Who was the best player of the Bucks in the series? Forbes? Tucker?
Who guarded Butler???
But hey the Heat were gassed. Why's that? They had played 72 games in the regular season like everyone else?

Off topic but he does not get the praise or accolades his play allows. He gets the same injury memes as Embiid and none of the DPOY credit that Giannis gets. Yet he was the one who hit clutch shots against Jokic with a full squad in 2020 and dominated the defending champion Warriors in 2023.

Just because LeBron James plays on the same team none of this counts

Giannis is honestly a big playoff choker outside of 2021.

But he’s still at worst 3rd best in the world and has been for nearly 5 years now, and he did do 2021, no matter what caveats we try to put on it… he’s great, just not up there with the top tier ATGs and never will be.

If KD was outside the line, would Giannis had to curse his luck because KD would have been lucky to not step on the line(since obviously he wasn't watching where he stepped)?
