LeBron and the Lakers have never once benefted from the play-in. This year they had to play a game they would not have had to play otherwise, and by winning it they gave themselves a much tougher matchup than they would have had otherwise.

If you hate LeBron which you clearly do, you should be celebrating the play-in.

Not only that but the payoff for rigging games for certain teams/playoffs are dwarfed by the PR, legal, and financial ramifications of said rigging getting exposed. The reward is nowhere near the risk for an organization like the NBA. The league generates over 10 billion in revenue a year, and something like getting the Lakers into the playoffs for a series represents what, a few million in extra revenue, if that? If it was ever discovered that games are systematically being fixed, the NBA stands to lose far far more than it does to gain by fixing them to begin with. Extremely high risk, very low reward. It's not being done.
