Best 5 players over the past 25 years

Post#1 » by One_and_Done » Thu Apr 18, 2024 12:21 am

If you were building a team today, and you get the guy for their whole career, who would be the top 5 choices for foundational building blocks to build around?

Note: this is not about 5 guys playing on the same team, it's about the 5 best guys to build around.

Duncan, Curry, and Other (Kobe) for staying with one team for their careers and bringing multiple rings. And, Lebron and Shaq.

Not having Kobe as an option is an oversight.

I think there's very little argument that Kobe is better than any of those 9 guys. The stats don't even think it's close. There are at least half a dozen guys who I'd have listed over Kobe that missed the cut.

Kobe: 9 first-team all defense teams. 5 titles in 2 different eras.
I know his 55% true shooting isn't fantastic, but he was a winner and a real menace on D. Good rebounder who became a great rebounder when it mattered most.

This is hard, it’s a very good question. LeBron, Duncan, Curry are locks imo. Then Jokic or Shaq? KD?

Was it a good question the last 50 times they've started this exact same thread?

Well yes it was still a good question. But I didn’t see the first 50.

The thread is different. It excluded bigs. Try reading the OP more carefully.

Check back next week when they inevitably make this exact same thread again.

And the week after that. And the week after that. And the week after that...

Shaq for me, without question. Of all the players mentioned, Shaq played with the highest ranked co-star and almost won 4 titles with him. Not only can he carry your offence and give you 20/10 for 14 straight years, his game allows any other star/superstar to flourish beside him. There has never been a duo of two all-time greats with peaks/primes overlapping like Kobe/Shaq. I'd put Jokic next on the list!

While getting easily annoyed by Kobe stans myself, I think the bigger nuisance right now are One_and_Done's blatant baiting attempts to get into a discussion about Kobe to make the same arguments about him again and again. Been there, done that. Too many times already.

I think the poll makes it clear Kobe would have had no chance anyway. Why not focus on the names who are there?

How long is it going to take everyone to realize every thread OP makes is just a way to facilitate his Kobe talking points?

I'm genuinely curious to see.

Shaq Lebron Jokic are on a tier of their own IMO. Then I've got Duncan Curry and a tier below, Luka.

Luka can change that... we'll see.
