2002, and they are still making commercials about it.

Anything bigger?

That’s cause they always disrespected him in the early 2000s.

I always thought it was really unfortunate that the way he was interpreted was taken completely out of the context in which he meant it and he was subsequently kind of shamed when the entire public just misunderstood him. It’s always said more about the public’s general lack of attention span than it ever did about Allen.

It makes it even wilder that it’s as long-standing as it is when it’s really poking fun at Allen for something that was real and human for him.

Stan Van's interview was better.

It really speaks to how confirmation bias works, and how bias in general works.

People were so ready to believe that AI was the type of guy who would hate practice or blow it off, that he didn't "care" enough or whatever, that all they needed to hear was the soundbite, and that was that.

And it's ironic because THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS RANTING ABOUT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! AI's entire point there was how media types would just run with it and bury him if they heard he missed a practice!

The only quibble I have with this thread is that this was a press conference, which isn't quite the same thing as an interview, but yeah this is absolutely one of the all-time iconic moments in the history of the league.

Not the most famous but this is certainly one of my alltime favorites.

Jordan’s retirement press conference in October of 1993 is probably the most famous NBA interview.

Or maybe it’s The Decision by Lebron.
