I don't know why the Clippers couldn't wait until the off season to extend Nephew. This guy cannot be relied upon to stay healthy for a sustained period of time. He is cooked yet they jumped the gun to re-sign him to an extension. I bet the next news will be that he is done for the playoffs. Sure, he had a good, relatively healthy regular season but unless he's available for the playoffs, he is not worth the money they're paying him.

If I were them I would have done the same thing. He's the best player the Clippers have ever had. With him being healthy at the right time they can win their first ever championship, without him they have no chance and nobody's walking through that door that can replace him. The timing has just been horrible luck.

Clippers are playing mind games regardless of Kawhi's true status.

It benefits them if the Mavs don't know whether or not he plays, or if they prepare as if he is going to play and he doesn't, or the opposite where if they prepare as if he doesn't play, but does. Kidd already doesn't know how to coach, he has to juggle two different mindsets and gameplays while things are up in the air.

Realistically if he's not healthy enough to play in a playoff game, I don't know if they have a shot at contending. This means he may not be 100% until the 1st round is over.

Worst results would be Kawhi tough it out and injure him deeper. The intensity and lenght of playoffs are just too much for his recovering body. He broke down after fighting with Mavs to a game 7 in 2021. Hard decision for the coach and clippers as he is too important to not rely on but has been paid max for next several years.

Eh, they’ve tried everything with him. Last year they load managed him all year. At this point it’s a near certainty that he gets injured no matter what.

You actually can't do that by rule. Owners aren't allowed to dictate to their players whether they can play in international ball or not. Marc Cuban has openly complained about that before largely because of Dirk and Luka playing international ball when he'd rather they didn't. Ballmer can whine all he wants but if Kawhi really wants to play in the Olympics that is one area he can tell Ballmer to go sit and spin

If he doesn’t play, maybe the best approach next year is to completely sit him until March 1st? 1.5 months is enough time to get into game shape and incorporate him. It would be weird to do, but maybe the best approach. They really should have enough to hover around the 7/8 spot without him.

Nah healthy Kawhi had the Clippers looking scary.

Clippers were looking like the best team in the West before Kawhi went down.

Mavs should win this because Kawhi is not healthy. It's also possible Harden could turn back the clock and show signs of prime Harden.
