I feel for Kings fans. Many seasons as Wolves fans having our team sitting at home, clinging to these meaningless individual awards as only beacon of hope for the franchise.

Honestly, the biggest surprise was Naz played 81 games. That's huge considering how many games KAT missed. I was fine either way.

While he deserves it, definitely feel it’s a bit unfair to an actual 6 man like Monk who didn’t start any games while Naz started 14 and saw his numbers get that requisite jump at the end of the season.

It's just crazy to leave Naz or Monk off your list entirely. These are the type of voters that deserve to their rights taken away.

Kicking myself for not putting more on Naz winning. I just put a random $5 a x30 odds :banghead:

It's not the first time a sixth man winner has started some games. And Naz came off the bench for an additional 67 games, just five less than Malik and the difference was two voters. Someone deserving was going to come in second.

Monk should have won comeback player of the year as well.

A bit surprised but it's cool that Naz won.

Probably his last attempt at it as well.

Why?

He is going to be starting for the Pistons next year.

People acting like Monk would have just won as the "highest scorer off the bench" just straight up didn't watch the Kings this year. Like that's an absurd take. He was the second best player on the team for big chunks of the season. His playmaking (which has been totally ignored in this thread so far, and so often in the discourse about Monk) was absolutely essential to propping up the offense.

It's indeed worth pointing out that Minnesota was the better team when looking at their values, but then it's also worth noting Reid might have actually been the 6th best player on his team. Monk was the third best King this year, and fourth frankly wasn't close to him.

Jamal Crawford and Lou Williams brainwashed y’all. I swear everyone thinks this award should go to an undersized scoring guard.

Tough race. I would have given it to Monk but Reid was right behind and had a solid season himself. Congrats

Pistons or Magic is my guess. Maybe the Spurs too but I think they'd prioritize a starting level point guard although Monk has proven he can be a solid secondary creator/distributor.

One guy started more than 1/6 games. That bumps his stats. As pointed out, Monk was the third best player in the Kings and Naz wasn’t for the Wolves.

:

This!
Would like to know who thought neither of these two were deserving of any spot in the top 3.

Did Doc still get to vote
3 - Bobby Portis
2 - Norman Powell
1 - Russell Westbrook

You just know whoever gave votes to Westbrook gave them to Powell too.

Being the Xth best player on your team shouldn’t have any bearing on this award. You can’t penalize a 6th man contender for having better teammates.

There’s nothing wrong with this. Both were deserving candidates.

What’s the point at pointing to Monk’s scoring number? 1.9 extra points per game at worse efficiency isn’t something to seperate him.
