Cancel the in season tournament

Post#1 » by Hair Jordan » Fri Apr 26, 2024 10:20 am

Remember the Lakers winning the in season tournament a few months ago? Well, they’re about to get swept out of the playoffs in the first round. That fact alone proves the ridiculousness and worthlessness of the tournament. The image of Lebron and AD having a champagne celebration and raising a banner the same season they get steamrolled in the first round makes it even more hilarious. Adam Silver doesn’t know sh-t about basketball and treats the league like it’s some gimmicky, low-rent carnival or something. Get rid of this lame ass, totally useless in season tournament. NOW.

The IST and the play-in both fail in their stated purpose of bringing significance to the regular season. They're lousy cash grabs but they'll remain because the NBA makes $$$ off them.

Adam Silver couldn’t score a layup in an empty gym. He probably couldn’t name every team in the league if you gave him 10 minutes. He’s an Ivy League educated lawyer. A suit. He’s taken a league that peaked in the 80’s and 90’s and turned it into a carnival freak show.

Nobody cares about the IST. They're just regular season games that Silver decided to call a tournament.

This is the only trophy that Lebron can win.

If you don't like it, don't watch it. You have issues cause you don't understand match-up so you just undermind their efforts and accomplishments. Not all if any contender can beat the Nuggets. Were you whining when teams cannot beat the Warriors or Bulls during their dynasty run?

Lakers won that tourney fair and square so if the Nuggets have a problem with it like you do, they should try to qualify and then win it. Kapish?

I'll die on the hill that the IST and play-in have made games more enjoyable, that's all I care about. Made random regular season games and end of season playoff races more exciting too. Don't care about cash grabs or whatever. People were previously complaining about the regular season games not having any stakes at all, having players sit out.. now people get angry about the games missed requirements for rewards and hate things that produced some good ball. Why? Because some people don't feel comfortable unless there's something to complain about. You will always find something even if there's no good reason.

People just really enjoy being miserable, man... investing enough time and effort following an NBA team already gives me enough of that.

Where would the NBA be without that sweet sweet gambling money. Some people have a family to feed!

even if the IST is not predictive of PS success, who cares. it makes a bunch of games in December meaningful at least.

The play in was a good idea, the in season tournament was just pure ratings fodder. Irrelevant and totally forgotten.

They need to tweak the IST. It needs to probably replace the ISG. Also needs to actually give some sort of benefit to the winner and runner-up. Maybe they'll figure something out.

yep.. it's not meant to be predicative of anything at all. feel like that's the point of it too.

also... exactly. like it's such a nothingburger of a complaint. "I HATE THIS THING SO MUCH THAT MAKES REGULAR SEASON GAMES HOLD A LITTLE MORE WEIGHT" and everybody else is like "okay? cool? this game is really good though" while people are popping blood vessels that players care 50% more in december lol

yeah, i think they were talking about that. also a tweak to the play-in stuff if a team is too far behind (like 5 games back or more) seems more fair too.

Almost every league also has cup tournamets, and everyone knows it doesn't compare to league title. It is still a trophy to win during more boring time of the season, and it is exciting for when its happening.

Despite IST being only in its first year, it accomplished just that.

Also, IST will have it's place in history, because there will be teams that will win both titles same year, and we will talk about them and their place in history. Just like Man City, that won all 4 last season and it's historical run. Would we remember who won FA cup in 2023, of course not, but now it's important.

I get that Lebron being good at basketball, somehow negatively impacts OPs personal life, and its just a bait, but I just post this to everyone who still cant grasp of idea that most sports teams in the world compete in numerous tournaments each year, and thats to make it more interesting. How is it better if those December games were just regular games, we already would have forgotten them. I know OPs life would be better, because Lebron would not have had champagne, but if you are not a troll, how is it better? NBA season is too long and everyone knows it.

It was suppose to boost significance of November and December and it did it very well. Hell, you still talk about it!

The winner of cup competitions do not always win the title. In fact, winning a double is a relatively uncommon achievement.

Also, the IST took place in November and early December. As such, it's never going to be predictive of post-season success. It's not supposed to be predictive. Most teams haven't rounded into form in December yet.

The fact that the Lakers won the IST never meant that they were the best team in basketball. My Pacers also went to the IST Finals and, guess what, we were NOT the second best team in basketball either. These two teams simply ramped up earlier than others and took the IST seriously.

I fault the Lakers for a lot of things because I love Schadenfreude, but I don't blame them for winning the tournament. You play to win the game.

It's simple they should give the IST winner a guaranteed Home court advantage in the Playoffs.
