Which players have had a more successful past 6 seasons than LeBron?

Post#1 » by zimpy27 » Tue Apr 30, 2024 9:51 am

LeBron in the past 6 season with the Lakers has:
1x championship
1x finals MVP
6x all star
6x all NBA
1x IST championship
1x IST MVP

Jokic for sure. Who else?

I would argue that the last 3 Finals MVPs in Jokic, Steph and Giannis were a lot more deserving of the Finals MVP award than LeBron since it really was a tie between him and AD. So I would say the 3 of them have had better seasons in the last 6 years.

Giannis, Steph and Jokic's rings are worth more because they were the only superstars on their team. They didn't need an Anthony Davis caliber player as their Robin.

Regardless of the Mickey ring, the lakers also played one of the worst finals team ever bc of all the injuries to the heat players + they didn't have that much talent to begin with, it was just butler willing them to 6 games.

The years after the bubble the lakers failed in the first round and got lucky once into the wcf but got swept.
Imo for a team with supposed 2 top 15 players that's a failure no matter how you put it. Definitely makes the Disney ring look like it's almost a fluke.

Is this some kind of anti-Giannis bit? 2 MVPs and unanimous first team all NBA each season vs one first team?

the bubble ring is meaningless and doesn't compare to any of the others so pretty much any other star that led his team to a championship in the last six seasons gets more credit for theirs. AD was the best player in those Finals easily. The best he's ever played in fact. A true beast on both ends of the floor and the best player on the floor. He deserved Finals MVP so that FMVP doesn't hold as much weight as the Finals MVPs of the other candidates either. Since that bubble stuff is such a joke it doesn't eclipse the accomplishments of others like MVP and scoring titles. And let's be honest, he didn't deserve all the those all-nba nods either. At least two of them are undeserved. But tbh there aren't that many stars that can compare with the accolades. Even the worst stretch of his career with the Lakers is still better than all but a handful of players.

Jokic (6 all-nba, 6 all-star, 2 MVPs, Finals MVP (earned), Championship)
Giannis (6 all-nba, 6 all-star, 2 MVPs, DPOY, 4 x all-defense, Finals MVP (earned), Championship)
Embiid (4 all-nba, 6 all-star, 1 MVPs, 3 x MVP runner-up, 2 x all-defense. Scoring Title x 2)
Steph (5 all-nba, 5 all-star, Finals MVP (earned), Championship, Scoring Title)
Kawhi (3 all-nba, 4 all-star, Finals MVP (earned), Championship, 3 x all-defense)
Tatum (4 all-nba, 5 all-star, made ECF three times and the Finals)
Butler (3 all-nba, 2 all-star, all-defense once, made ECF x 3 and Finals twice)

All this despite picking his teammates and hiring and firing his coaches. He's been pretty much a failure by Laker standards.

If youre gonna put Lebron then why not include AD? He’s been better than Lebron in this playoffs and the last. He was a beast this regular season too and might finish 1st or 2nd team all-NBA. And one can argue he was co-Finals MVP that 2020 bubble ring, if not even the more deserving one because of his defense. Remember he also lead the Lakers in scoring that postseason.

Look... at .. his... age...

MJ wasn't doing the type of things Bron is at this age.

People just have unrealistic expectations for Bron.

my only beef with Lebron on the Lakers was the forced Westbrook trade. Everyone knew it would go wrong, but it seems like lebron thinks the power of friendship is stronger.

Getting a ring always makes it a success, specially at his age

Jokic, Giannis, Curry is around the same level, I think you could argue Doncic because of his 5 1st team all NBA selections or Embiid being perennially in the running for MVP but most people would probably weigh the ring more

That, and it's also worth noting that Davis has played 36, 40, 56 and 76 games since the title, which has not helped their seeding.

Then there's the Westbrook trade, putting any time into what remained of Carmelo Anthony, pinning hopes of D'Angelo Russell, etc. You need depth, and LA has been pretty weak about adapting to the 3pt era, as well. 2021 forward, they've been 24th in 3PA and 21st in 3P%, then 17th and 22nd, then 26th and 25th before this season, where they were 28th and 8th. Over that same stretch, they've been 1st, 21st, 11th and 16th on D.

Inconsistency, mismatch between O and D, not maximizing their tools, odd and terrible roster decisions, tons of injuries. You can say what you want about Lebron, but for a guy his age and dealing with what LA has endured, they've done pretty well. There are other guys who have done better without question, but they have also enjoyed a somewhat better context/environment in which to work. And yeah, certainly dudes like Giannis, Steph and Joker have all at LEAST matched what Lebron has done.

Giannis has 2 MVPs and a ring since 2019, and a pair of top-2 finishes for DPOY (with the one win). Steph has 2 Finals appearances, a ring, a scoring title, a couple of top-5 MVP finishes and some strong postseason performances. In 2022, he beat the crap out of the Nuggets, was mortal against the Grizz and the Mavs and then put it all together to step all over the Celtics.

Joker obviously has 2 MVPs, a ring, insane stats.

Joel Embiid has 2 scoring titles, an MVP and 3 top-2 MVP finishes.

2019 onward sneaks us past Harden's MVP but he still finished top-3 for 2 more seasons and snuck in a pair of scoring titles, then led the league in APG last season.

So any of those guys could be argued as having a more successful stretch, really. Harden would be a tougher sell because he doesn't have even a single ring and his scoring has tailed off considerably since leaving Houston, but he's at least there in the discussion.

EDIT: Somehow, I brainfarted and didn't mention Luka... Scoring title this year. Doesn't have the MVP love or the rings, but from a pure production standpoint, in the mix. Healthier than Lebron, too.

That Championship narrows is down to jokic, giannis and curry pretty much. I dont give a damn about allstar selections and the IST is a bit weird to judge, because it has only been there 1 year.
