Has Anthony Edwards Surpassed Jayson Tatum?
It's crazy to see the giant leap/improvement Edwards has made from last season to this season. He's still raw but man he's got that dog in him and he wants it. Tatum we all know is great but he seems to be on cruise control sometimes and doesn't have that "IT" factor like Edwards does to take over games.
Curious what y'all take is on this?

I think I am more excited about Ant than I was about Tatum at the same age, though that is partly my anti-Duke leanings. I wouldn’t say he is a better player than Tatum, but he is more exciting, and will be talked about in more of a “star” tone than Tatum due to a multitude of factors.
I think Tatum has a slightly bigger impact on the game as of now but Edwards has the higher ceiling.

ant has a mindset you want from ur #1 guy. so even if Tatum ends up with more accolades and potentially rings, id choose ant over Tatum.

Calm down. Tatum has been in 17 playoff series (almost 100 games). Edwards has played in 3 (15 games).
I'm all for celebrating Ant's coming out party in the Wolves first playoff series win since 2004. But one series doesn't boost a ranking like that. You'll all turn on him if he looks bad against Denver and call him all kinds of things.
Let the man build his resume. He's off to a nice start.

After one series? I'm gonna say no.
Tatum led his team to the ECF's as a rookie and was dunking on LeBron in Game 7. Been to 4 Conference Finals and 1 NBA Finals as the #1 option. Holds the NBA record with 51 points in a Game 7. Now he's joined Bron and Kobe as the only players in NBA history with 3000 playoff points before turning 27.
Ant is dope as hell and was absolutely incredible vs Suns. But he's 22 likely to have some ups and downs in this postseason as he plays better opponents, and then there's the rest of his career still to come. Give the kid a minute lol.

Re: Has Anthony Edwards Surpassed Jayson Tatum?
Jayson Tatum is currently a better player who is able to put up worse stats due to his team being unethically loaded because of Boston Celtics front office blood magic. It is better for the Celtics for Tatum to put more energy into defense and facilitating, than being hyper-aggressive offensively; he has the ability to turn up his scoring output during big moments.
If the Minnesota Timberwolves win the Championship, I think the narrative will flip to Anthony Edwards being better (whether it is true or not won't matter, it just is what it is), but as of today, I do not see a reasonable argument in favour of Anthony Edwards.

Ant Edwards is the best American player in basketball.
I currently have Ant rated as the 4th best player in basketball behind Jokic/Embiid/Luka.

Too soon! I see Ant as a possible top 3 type guy someday but we're not there yet.
Maybe if Ant goes nuts and carries the Wolves to a finals we can have that conversation... but Tatum has a strong playoff resume over many years that Ant has not gotten close to beating. E.g. Tatum holds the record for most points in a game 7.

I'd pump the brakes on that but Ant's playoff resume looks preeeeetty good so far. Wouldn't be shocked at all if we view him as the better player after these playoffs

I think so, he's been better on both sides of the floor and he's showing he can be a 1 option for a title team.

Yes he’s been better. Tatum is probably the most overrated player in the NBA.

Re: Has Anthony Edwards Surpassed Jayson Tatum?
Haha it does seem like Tatum is the guy that everyone (outside of Boston) is just waiting to get knocked off his perch.
It started off that as a rookie he was already near his ceiling and he would never be more than a Tobias Harris level player. Then it was, he was better than Harris, but he could never be a true #1 guy. Then he drops a 30/9/4 regular season and most likely on his way to his 3rd straight 1st team all NBA selection and 4th overall and he still is just 26 years old.
I do kind of get it. He is the least freakiest talent out of all the top players in the league. Giannis is a physical freak. Jokic is probably the best offensive player ever and weve never seen a big anywhere close to his skill set. Luka is Luka magic out there. Embiid is a huge physical force.
Tatum is just kind of blah. Good size but not freakish, good athlete but not standout. Good skills but nothing crazy. He's kind of that jack of all trades kind of guy. He's just a super dependable high level player. Hell he even opened up these playoffs dropping a triple double haha. But I think without him having that freakish aspect about him, he's the guy that I think many think is the easy guy to knock off. He just seems to keep getting better and better though.

Re: Has Anthony Edwards Surpassed Jayson Tatum?
Yes because Tatum as someone just said is just Blah. He’s not really up there challenging to be the best player in the league.
He’s the guy who’s never going to be the best player on the floor when title contenders are matched up. He’s the guy that’s gonna get his fair share of second and third place mvp votes but never a real contender to win.
Edwards is showing he can take and is taking that step to elite status that frankly Tatum just hasn’t.

Tatum is just a slightly better player than Brown. At least in my opinion. But he is still miles ahead of Edward’s. Let’s talk again in five years or so…
