What's it going to take for the Thunder to win a few?

Post#1 » by Clangus » Tue Dec 16, 2008 5:26 am

Kevin Durant is playing out of his mind the last 4 games and still no wins. :(
Over the last 4 he is putting up 29.75 ppg 9rpg 2.25bpg and 1.5spg and shooting at 50.5% fg and 50% from downtown and 87.5 from the line

Thats great for anyone, but its still not enough! *Sigh*

If you were the Thunder GM - Who would you try to trade for and what would you do to try and garnish a few more wins?

I think if OKC wins less than 10 games, they should get a bonus 1st round pick at the end of the first round.

They should trade their whole roster for San Antonio's, and they maybe might have a shot.

Or they could move back to Seattle. Maybe it's a karma sort of thing.

Kevin Durant is a tremendoulsly talented player, IMHO has the potential to be the next Elite player in the league. Sad part is the Thunder sucks so bad that he is such a terrible waste there. They need to spend some money and get a supporting cast there. But with such a crappy market and not much revenue, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Didn't Seattle pretty much blow up their team and hire PJ so they could move to OKC more easily? If so, it's hard to have much sympathy. It's kinda funny because they have been playing better and losing down the stretch instead of just getting blown out of the water. So that's a good step, I guess...

Well i think that's what they did. But it the fans suffering not the Management, or the ownership.
I followed Seattle since Nate McMillan was at the point and even before, I continued to follow them when the moved. Now we have Kevin Durant- a Real Franchise player that I can't remember ever having and he's playing like a man possessed, but cant get a W - for the fans it sucks, but they are getting closer:)

They are absolutely terrible at C and SG. They are also pretty bad at PG, but that should sort itself out as Westbrook develops. And they're not too hot at PF either - Jeff Green is decent, but is most definitely a natural SF, but SF happens to be Durant's natural position. Basically, they need an entirely new team, except for Durant and *maybe* Westbrook. Winning the lotto, drafting Blake Griffin, and dealing Jeff Green (+ other pieces?) for a SG or a C would be a nice start.

If I am them, I'm building my team around:

PG - Westbrook, ???
SG - ???, Weaver
SF - Durant, ???
PF - Griffin (assuming they win the lotto), Collison
C - ???, Petro

Main trading chips to fill in those question marks:
- Jeff Green
- Earl Watson
- Chris Wilcox
- a bunch of picks (I'm pretty sure they have a bunch of other teams' picks)
- draft rights to Serge Ibaka
- expiring contracts (Desmond Mason, Joe Smith, Robert Swift, Saer Sene)

This is one of the most Intelligent post I have seen in a while. Well done

-Yes they have ALOT of picks At least 2 first rounders and 2 second rounders for 2009 and aside from thier own picks in 2010 they get PHX first rounder (unprotected)

They already had the 2nd to last 1st rounder in this year's draft. He hasn't played a game yet. That won't help them.

And what if they use it on another Serge Ibaka? I just have to laugh at the absurdity of that pick. They barely field a competitive NBA roster, and they draft a guy who won't be ready for a few (3+) years (if ever) with a 1st round pick.

Yeah I don't know what it is with that frinchise and gambling on athletic bigs. They just don't seem to learn. What if they draft Thebeet, and he can't do anything at all on offense?

Everyone on the other team forgetting how to play basketball
B) everyone on the opposing team drunk

or

C) Thunder making the rim diameter smaller on their opponents goals during half time in order to increase the chances of poor shooting nights

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

They need a top 10 player of all-time in his prime to get on their team.

Kevin Durant should just try to break scoring records this year.

A healthy Chris Wilcox helps but definitely doesn't solve their problems. What's going on with Robert Swift? Perhaps Joe Smith should start just to give them some experience in the starting lineup. Regardless, this team is not going to win many games this year.
When Vinny Del Negro sends in his taxes, he sends blank forms and includes only a picture of himself, crouched and ready to attack. Vinny Del Negro has not had to pay taxes ever.

They are slowly improving. They managed to get in some close games lately, just didn't have enough experience to win them. And Jeff Green has been playing well lately ...

Sooner or later, they'll catch some team off guard and surprise them.

thabeet's still a good choice. he's more ready than all 3-4 big men they drafted combined.

This is good for Blake Griffin, he won't have to do any moving, staying in a comfortable atmosphere, and I actually expect the Thunder to do some moves to try and acquire a veteran this offseason. all of this assuming that they win the lotto.
