Didnt bother to click any further than #8. How are you gonna rank Nash, who doesnt play D and didnt get to the finals over Payton who took his team to the finals, played incredibly at both ends of the floor, and gave one of the best teams ever fits in the finals?

Maybe you're right. I'm not clicking the link but I think this has something to do with it:

Say what you want, but Nash was also part of some phenomenal basketball a couple of years ago. Including great playoff basketball performances. His team did lose 2 out of 3 times to the eventual NBA champions in the playoffs and the 06-07 battle was the toughest series for the Spurs.

You can make a good case for him, which is enough to warrant a selection on some random list.
"I definitely knew he traveled, but I didn't know they were going to call it. That was one of them situations in which a great player made a move...and they called the call. And I was like, 'Oh, man, there is a God.'

Paytons best season: 1999-00 - 31 yrs old
24.2 pts (45 fg%, 34 3fg%), 8.9 apg (2.7 TO), 6.5 rpg, 1.9 stls took 20 shots per game and made 9 of them.
Nashs best season: 2006-07 - 32 yrs old (the year after his back to back MVPs)
18.6 pts (53 fg%, 45.5 3fg%), league leading 11.6 apg (3.7 TO), 3.5 rpg, .8 stl took 13 shots made 7 of them.

Paytons career numbers: 16.3 pts (46 fg, 32 3fg), 6.7 ast (2.3 TO), 4 rpg, 1.8 spg with great defense (although I think it was slightly overrated).
Nashs career numbers: 14.4 pts (49%fg, 43 3fg%) 8 ast (2.8 TO), 3 rpg, .8 stl. he won 2 MVP awards (although some think they were undeserved)

I dont know its tough I dont think you can say either one wins EASILY and its not a disrespect to either one to have the other above, they were both elite point guards that stand in an elite class statistically.

Nash is better at setting up teammates and is a better out side shooter, not that Payton was a slouch in those areas. Payton was a better overall scorer and a tougher player.

Where things really become lopsided is when you compare the two players on the defensive end of the court. Payton was a dominant defensive guard (perhaps the best on that entire list) in his prime, whereas Nash is a slightly below average to average defender (at best). There is a huge gap between the two on the defensive end.

- Payton led a team to the Finals and actually has a ring. Nash has never been to the finals.

Payton should be ahead of Nash (there is no question in my mind), the real question is should he be ahead of Kidd.
Don't believe the hype...

I think I'd still rank Kidd over Payton, but no doubt, both are better than Nash.

You can't be that defensively inept and NOT have it count against you at some point

No but Amare being an idiot gave suns fans an excuse for losing a series they werent going to win anyways.

Anyhow that list isnt bad. Nash and Payton are close, I prefer Payton though.

It is natural reaction to run to a teammate you think may be injured. They would have won that series if not for the suspensions. Game 4 was a huge breakthrough- to come from behind so late in the game on the Spurs home floor. They would have won games 5 and 7 at home. Suns 4-3 or perhaps even 4-2 as the Spurs may have been deflated

payton is a top 3 at least defensive pg of all time, not to mention was an incredible playmaker and scorer.. was fun to see him abuse other pg's in the post too.. he also was on a squad that gave the 96 bulls (72-10) trouble in the finals while nash has never made the finals in an inferior league in terms of the elite teams..

btw, jerry west is on the wrong list, dude ran the point
