How good could Dajuan Wagner have been?

Post#1 » by Dantares » Tue Jan 19, 2010 4:37 pm

If he didn't have those health issues?

I remember his rookie year, he showed an incredible ability to score off the dribble. He had a strong, athletic build similar to Eric Gordon. Nice jumpshot and whenever he got trapped he was always able to make the perfect bounce pass to his teammates and they would score. Would he have been the legit 20ppg scorer that lebron has needed? or just like Ricky davis, was his game too one-dimensional to compliment Bron's game?

Wagner was dirty, he just exploded in his rookie year. I wish he could of stayed healthy -- LeBron and him would of been nice.

He wouldn't have been much better than lets say Mo Williams...

I dont remember him being a great passer tho, scoring was his thing

Now I'l admit I didn't really ever watch Wagner in his rookie year, or at least if I did I don't remember much about him, but he shot like 37% that year...how is that exploding?

Im 21 now so back then my memory of him might be a little skewed, but I do remember right when he came into the league he was tearing up, then his stats started to go down --- wish I could find the game log for that season

Edit: Found his splits

Never was at any point and exceptional shooter in terms of FG%, I guess I remembered his first few games instead of the whole season haha

People who suggest he would have been dominant just look up stats and nothing more... No, he would not have been dominant..

He caught the league off guard a bit early on, but then teams started to realize that he had no left hand whatsoever, no passing ability, could not use screens all that well, and was a tiny 2guard...

3's and floaters is all he had on the NBA level..

And no, he would not have been better than Mo Williams..

Wagner was more like a taller and stronger Brandon Jennings. He was a prolific but inefficient scorer. He didn't have much in common with Mo Williams who is an unprolific but efficient scorer. I don't think Wagner would of had a great career if he was healthy, but he could have been a strong contributor on any team.

Another player from that era that could have been very good was Darius Miles. Darius was one of the most versatile and multi-skilled players to enter the NBA in years. He could pass, handle the rock, rebound, score inside, shoot midrange jumpers, block shots, etc. His problem was that he had no heart or motivation for basketball and would rather smoke pot. Later he would have health issues.

Basically had some disease that eventually led to him having his colon removed.

Just another inefficient undersized scoring guard. As excited as people get over those types of guys for their speed and athleticism, you have to remember they are a dime a dozen and they rarely become centerpieces on good teams.

dont want to hi-jack but what bout Bender/Miles? These 2 were freaks of nature too, injuries killed their career as well.

They can make an artificial resection to the exit point.

If he ever learned how to go left he might have been decent. He did put up big points initially but that really didn't last that long but he continued to take the shots.
