Trading ray allen (in his prime nonetheless) for gary payton and desmond mason.

Talk to any Bulls fan mid-december, and it's "not resigning Ben Gordon". It's a tough call now, he's been injured half the season and the Bulls are competing now.

think that one depends on whether you cash out on the 2010 spending spree

in retrospect I would have moved Hinrich for expirings while I could and kept Gordon

Not trading Luol Deng for KG, Pau, or Kobe when they were "available".

I also regret sleeping with a prime Marilyn Monroe when I had my shot. But sadly I never met her and she died before I was born.

Dominique to the Clippers for Danny Manning.
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

Helloooooo Kevin McHale! You have to screw up a lot of times in order to have a top 25 player all-time and still never do much of anything in the playoffs. Moving chronologically:

-1996: Draft day trade sent Ray Allen for Stephen Marbury. Looked like a better fit at the time, but then Marbury revealed his inner crazy and ruined everything. Prime KG + Prime Ray + role players would have been enough for a championship, even with all the other terrible moves.

-2002: Lets an entering-his-prime Chauncey Billups walk in free agency because the team won't guarantee him a starting spot with Terrell Brandon around. Brandon retired within the year. Troy Hudson got $15 million/3 years instead, based entirely off of one good playoff series.

-Personally issued a lot of the bad contracts we've come to know and love: Trenton Hassell: $22 million/5 years. Marko Jaric: $31 million/5 years. Wally Szczerbiak: $65 million/6 years.

-2000: Under the table deal with Joe Smith costs Minnesota 5 1st round draft picks. Later reduced to 3, probably out of pity.

-With the few 1st rounders McHale didn't forfeit or trade for peanuts, he showed a particular flair for drafting players who couldn't even make it in the league as role players:
Paul Grant, #20: plays 8 minutes for the Timberwolves, 111 in his career.
Will Avery, #14: lasted 3 seasons
Ndudi Ebi, #26: McHale's first 1st round pick in 4 years, spent on a guy who lasted 2 seasons, 86 total minutes. Josh Howard and Kendrick Perkins were still available.
Rashad McCants, #14: out of the league in 3 years. Danny Granger still available.
Randy Foye, #7: via trade for Brandon Roy. 'Nuff said.

His only two "good" picks in the 11 years after drafting KG: Wally Szczerbiak and Rasho.

I still have yet to see one that tops Detroit not drafting Wade, Bosh, or Carmelo.

its easy to say that AFTER the fact, wade? why they had Rip, Bosh? had Wallce/Sheed, Carmelo? Had prince.....Darko based on highlights and pre draft was suppose to be the better version of Dirk. Det. had enough talent on the team to take a chance on big risk big reward type player.

But it was a decision, and it was bad. Thus fits the criteria of this thread.

For Portland in this past decade,

When good (2001): Trading Jermaine O'Neal for Dale Davis

When bad (Feb 2006): Turning down Isiah's offer of Hardway's expiring contract and David Lee for Theo Ratliff and Darius Miles. Lee was a 5 and 5 guy stuck behind Channing Frye in Larry Brown's rotation, while Paul Allen loved Darius as 12 and 5 guy who could play SF, small ball PF, and bring the ball up the court.

If the rumors are true, then it had to have been the Nugs not trading Andre Miller for the draft rights to Deron Williams.

This thread is about decisions when your team was good!

Late 90's Knicks were bad? Larry Brown era was laughable, I don't count that.

I think it's much easier to swallow since they did win a title that first year of the Darko Era and went to the NBA Finals the next year. Plus none of those guys would've got minutes anyways that year.
