How to Save the All Star Game

Post#1 » by raptorsam » Thu Mar 25, 2010 5:25 am

1 v 1 Tournament. 4-5 dribble max so players can't just post up or something like that. Yeah some players won't enter to save their image "shots fired", but I'm sure some would love to get in on this for bragging rights. Throw some serious money for the winner and you got yourself a hit.

Allstar game should decide homecourt in the finals.

1. It would put actual value on the ASG
2. It's probably more fair too, bc since the schedules very much differ between East and West, the absolute records aren't truly comparable anyway.

They should make the teams smaller and play 3 on 3 bball. Just like NBA Jam.

A mini 3on3 streetball tournament with selected players and teams would be quiet awesome I think.

Hmmm...the ASG is meaningless so they don't really need to do anything to "save it," and besides, I thought this years was rather good.

But if they do wanna put a bit more value to it the ASG should decide the Homecourt in the Finals, as stated previously.

You really think players are going to play harder just to help out the 2-3 legit contenders (rivals) have an easier time in the playoffs?

Yup, an NBA Americans Vs Foreigners All Star Game would be probably a little more exciting and valuable.

The fans should vote for ther best player per team, regardless of record or playing position.

That way the NBA still gets paid from hits on their website and fans from all the teams have a vested interest in the game because all 30 teams are represented.

If the chosen players can't play (injury or what ever) then it's up to Stern to fill the gaps.

The coaches of each team selects the starters.

Make it a celebration of all the teams in the NBA, not just the ones with the bigger fan bases, the players with the more marketable names or the teams with the "acceptable" records.

There are probably a few things here and there that you could add to the ASW as a whole, but the ASG itself doesn't really need any "saving". It's fine the way it is.

The only things I consider buried 6-feet under is the Slam Dunk Contest, and the Skills Challenge which is really quite the bore.

Agreed. I enjoy the All-Star Game. I don't see why it needs fixing.

This year's All Star Game was just fine, it's the other stuff that needs changing.

Plus, team front offices wouldn't stand for risk of injury with these 1-on-1, 3-on-3 stuff. Won't happen.

I wouldn't mind a USA-World thing though, that'd be pretty pimp.

1- the USA vs the World thing.
2- make it mean something, homecourt advantage.
3- change the voting. Allen Iverson and Tracy McGrady???? Should be like a points system, so the fan vote would still count, but not be the end all for starters.

HELL no. There is absolutely no logic in pinning such a critical factor to a one-game exhibition. Baseball can do it because home field doesn't mean as much as it does in basketball. You'd also be removing a significant amount of meaning from the regular season. Big, big thumbs down.
