Gasol is far better than Dwight Howard

Post#1 » by RipCityLives » Fri Jun 18, 2010 1:28 pm

Howard at Top 5 discussion is a joke. That "Softie Euro" is far better basketball player than Howard. All that sh*t about Gasol being only a good player because he plays with Kobe is a wrong statement. Gasol basically won the title for LA operating from the low post down the stretch in Game 7. He scored on a triple team Wallace/Garnett/Pierce making a clutch bucket. Playing defense, grabbing offensive boards. Dwight Howard would never have been this impact. Gasol is a more complete player, and he's currently the best big man in the game. Do you think LA would be a better team with Howard at center instead of Gasal ?? I dont think so.

If you want free throw chokers, no IQ at all, no mid range, no post moves, no leadership, and a physical freak on defense. Yes, Howard is your man.....or Varejao.

I like defense a lot...it is nearly 50% of the game (offense is slightly more important, imo.) That you can build a team with Dwight and a bunch of pylons who cannot defend or rebound and have a team that is both elite at defense and rebounding is pretty mindblowing to me.
Good Lord, thing about how nasty the Lakers would have been if Pau had been replaced by Dwight. Dwight + Kobe? Scary, scary, scary.

You lose passing ability. You lose versatily PF-C. You lose midrange, you lose pick and roll defense. you lose a low post threat.

Right. Because if there has ever been something that Dwight Howard deserves to be ripped to shreds over in the last 2 years, it's his pick and roll defense.

Gasol was a boarder line AS before being put in the triangle and teaming with Kobe. Howard may not have the offensive polish but is still significantly better.

Honestly, I am not sure what Gasol is better at. Somehow this guy goes out there, shoots 6-16, gets blocked by Sheed and Garnett like 6 times on post moves, and nobody says a word about his offense. Not that I want Dwight Howard's expectations to be as low as Gasol's. But hey, just a thought.

Howard is a good defender/rebounder but not a top 5 player.

Yeah, the expectations are completely different for the two.

Howard never got the critics Gasol had received in his career. Howard's still known as the best big man in the game, when he has done nothing to prove it, Gasol is still that soft guy who plays with Kobe even being a major piece in the lakers chips.

How about getting to the finals as the best player on the team, when Gasol's best tries ended unanimously in 1st round sweeps. How about that.

Howard best player on his team takes the Magic to the finals and second best record in the league. Gasol best player on his team equal lottery or first round exit at best. Like I said in another thread. Gasol is a great number 2 option. If he was your best player you be Memphis. You would be like Toronto is with Chris Bosh.

Dwight Howard's offense is still underrated. He was better offensively against the Celtics than Gasol. Interesting that Gasol's best two games of the finals was after Perkins was injured.

It's Dwight easily. Gasol really did not play like a top player tonight.

What's with all these duplicate threads?

Why was Dwight Howard the best?? The perimeter was the major piece for the Orlando Magic. Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu. After that, Howard got owned by Gasol in the NBA finals. But he's still better than him based on stupid statements and cliches. Gasol never had a scoring threat from the perimeter in his Memphis Grizzlies. He basically carried his team for years to the playoffs. Do you think Dwight Howard makes Western Conference finals with Bonzi Wells, Battier, Stromile Swift and old Damon Stoudamire as supporting cast, against Duncan's Spurs at his best, Dirk's Mavs when they played finals, and Suns when Nash was MVP???? They would have been sweep as well.

The fact that Gasol plays with Kobe and Howard plays with Vince may be confusing you.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy
