With Pierce, it was easier to go with the older version, since he's aged so well. It's harder for me to tell with Carter though, because I didn't see his first three seasons, so I really don't know how much better he was as a younger player, how much of his effort issues were real or made up, or how much worse his defense was than it was with the Nets. I figured I'd go with his early years with the Nets, but I could pick one of his full seasons with the Raps (03/04), when not only was he younger and thus probably more explosive, but also shot better from 3 than he did with the Nets in 06/07. I figure I can get the best of both worlds, but it depends on how harshly people judge him for how he left the Raptors.

Of course, I don't know how closely people will look at those 3 year peaks exactly. If a guy had a down season, how much are people going to punish you for it when the guy has a reputation as a much better player and has a ton of other years to back it up? I mean, you couldn't ignore Truth shooting 29% from 3 one year, but just in general, you know? Outside of Vince I'm pretty set though.

PG: Mookie Blaylock (93/94-95/96)/Jason Terry (04/05-06/07)
SG: Vince Carter (98/99-00/01)/Arron Afflalo (11/12-13/14)
SF: Paul Pierce (07/08-09/10)/Ron Artest/Metta World Peace (08/09-10/11)
PF: Chris Bosh (07/08-09/10)/Dennis Rodman (89/90-91/92)
C: Hakeem Olajuwon (92/93-94/95)/Tree Rollins (81/82-83/84)

I usually do the year ending. 07-08 Pierce would be 08 Pierce for me. That's how I'm writing all the years in the draft thread OP, if anyone does it differently.

Nope. HeartBreakKid left. And Notanoob needs years for VC.

I'll hand mine in tomorrow. I have a final I've been studying for, so I haven't had time too look too hard into it. After tomorrow morning I'm free!

That's okay, it gives me some more time to do research on Toronto-era Vince.

Im just very curious why Brad Daugherty wasnt drafted? 20-10 57% winning record, allstar every yr. He outplayed Hakeem in head to head meetings and was just as good as Ewing or DRob in match ups. He is without a doubt the 6th best C of this era and he was passed up by every team. Not even as a backup.

Truthfully, I forgot about him after I drafted Kareem and went for Chandler. But for those who were hell bent on a passing center, I'm not sure why he was passed up on. He was that 80s center who could go in the post and had a solid mid-range jumper even if he's more finesse than power. Not much of a defender, but then again, Brad Miller and Vlade aren't outstanding in these areas too. It could be he's thought of as a guy who's back forced him out of the league, but looking at games played, he fits in the rules.

Didn't consider him for my starting C just because I wanted someone who could defend the paint really well, and I already had 3 20ppg scorers in my starting line-up, for my back-up I thought he was drafted for some reason and had him marked off my list of players i was interested in. I did draft him in the only other draft I did on this board for what its worth :) but didn't make it out the first round :(

just to clear some things up about Toronto-bosh... offensively he was an iso-heavy mid-high post player who threatened defending bigs with his jumpshot but his primary goal was to get to the rim - which he did quite frequently. in his later years in Toronto (08 and 09) I would say he was almost unguardable 1 on 1.

about his rebounding, it's not like he's any worse of a rebounder now it's just that in Toronto he was often guarding centers (in the traditional sense) so he was often in premium position to grab boards. in Miami though he often switches on PnR's all the time and I wouldn't be surprised if he spent about half his time on defense from the free throw line to the three point line. it's about strategy, not stats.

PS I will finally divulge how I drafted the players I did. there were a few main categories i looked for (searches on bball-ref) and had a spreadsheet with players' three-year averages in: PER, ORTG, DRTG, the difference in ORTG/DRTG, WS/48 and I used TS% as a tie-breaker. I know that one stat (no matter how advanced) accurately portrays a player's impact which is why I tried to find players that had good impact across the board. my theory with this is that I would find players that had a good medium of production/efficiency and also contributed to the team's success. my barkley, paul, gasol, sabonis and harden picks were at the top of my big board, the rest were in the top 1/4 of my big board. positional needs was also a bigg issue of mine, and I feel I drafted my players wrong from a positional standpoint. eg I could have gotten doc rivers who went undrafted but was pretty much an equal to mo cheeks and drafted kiki vandeweghe instead of lewis.

thinking about it now i'm kind of glad I went PG/PF first, those were the positions that were drafted the least.

As of today Nargio has a 25-12 big to pair with Jordan. That pick is looking better and better every day.

I seriously considered taking him as my backup center, but I wanted my backup to be clearly worse than my starter, so I could play him much less minutes. With Mourning and Daugherty, it's be too close between them. I agree that he deserved to be drafted, but many people were discouraged by his poor defender. Very solid scorer, rebounder and an excellent passer tho, so it's indeed quite strange that no one was willing to nab him...
