I seriously considered taking him as my backup center, but I wanted my backup to be clearly worse than my starter, so I could play him much less minutes. With Mourning and Daugherty, it's be too close between them. I agree that he deserved to be drafted, but many people were discouraged by his poor defender. Very solid scorer, rebounder and an excellent passer tho, so it's indeed quite strange that no one was willing to nab him...

Yeah, although our time-line begins with the 79-80 season ("80"), so "79" cannot be used.

You mean 80-82, right? 1979 is ineligible, but I'm sure you're aware of that and just made a mistake while typing it. I'm just trying to get it correct, so that MisterHibachi won't have any problems with it.

You can't use 79 for Gervin. Unless you're like Notanoob and use the years when they start? So the rest of your years would be different too.

When you write down the years, write the year ending. If you meant 79/80-81/82 for Gervin, then write 80-82. Just want to keep it uniform with the way I wrote the rest of the years.

I'll take a bit of a risk here and go with young Vince Carter. 98/99-00/01. He's clearly the best version on offense, and while his defense has improved, I don't think it'll make much of a difference against all-time greats if he's bad or just mediocre. Furthermore, he didn't start to really have 'issues' until management made it clear they were in no hurry to win. I'm getting the fully healthy, full-effort version who had an epic playoff duel with AI, and was only one more made FGA away from winning the series. This version of Vince also is nearly a 40% 3 point shooter, best shooting version available. Plus, I think that old-ish Paul Pierce can handle giving Vince more touches. He knows as well as everyone who's getting the ball in crunch time.

Just a comment, the three year thing really seems to complicate it. Are you judging which team is best over a three year period? If a player has quite a fluctuation between years, are you using an average of the three and just assume that's his level of play? Or are you assuming the first year designated for each individual player makes up the team for the first year, and so on?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

We're using an average from that three year span, calculated by BBR. This was meant to eliminate the 'one season wonders' and huge outlier seasons (like 2003 T-Mac, for example) I was also saying that it could complicate things a bit, but eventually it seems that it's not really complicated. The only thing that caused some misunderstanding was the rule concerning eligibility (at least 62 games played in each of the three seasons, assuming normal 82-game regular season).

I like the fact we used 3 year peaks, just like you said it eliminates those injury prone players that never really could put together healthy seasons or those that couldn't sustain a high level of play for more than a season or 2. It basically eliminates the Bill Waltons of the league which is good, because people tend to overrate short peaks on this forum (t-mac, walton).

Didn't consider him for my starting C just because I wanted someone who could defend the paint really well, and I already had 3 20ppg scorers in my starting line-up, for my back-up I thought he was drafted for some reason and had him marked off my list of players i was interested in. I did draft him in the only other draft I did on this board for what its worth :) but didn't make it out the first round :(

Yet Daugherty is a better defender than Hibbert or at least you prove what Daugherty can do. Im not sure claiming that Hibbert can hold Marc Gasol under his scoring avg carries as much weight as saying Daugherty held Hakeem to under 20ppg. I never bought the whole Daugherty was soft argument. I watched him play my Pistons and he didnt shy away. I still recall his playoff series vs the Boston big3. Mussberger was suggesting Parish and McHale consider retirement after what Daugherty did to them. I just believe Larry Nance was overrated and Daugherty underrated. I do hope someone drafted Larry Nance. Marion went in the 3rd rd and Nance is a better player.

I have to disagree, I don't think Daughtery was ever as good as Hibbert now defensively. I also wasn't specifically referring to his man defense because the Shaqs and Kareem's in this league will get get their numbers regardless who's guarding them it's the help D that's important. Hibbert is averaging over 2 blocks for his 3 years stretch while Daugherty never came close to that despite playing more mpg. Also Hibberts role on the Pacers will be the exact same on this team which helps.

Hibbert is a much better defender than Daugherty. Nance and Hot Rod were the rim protectors there. Daugherty just tried to hold his own.

Daugherty is unquestionably better than Tree Rolllins, Gheorghe Muresan, and Andrew Bogut.
