The same having Jordan and Pippen would do. They're the core of one of the greatest teams of all-time, and their proven chemistry is something you can't ignore, and you can't have that with any of these hypothetical duos where guys never actually played together.

Re: PC Board All-Time Fantasy League Project - Discussion Th
Magic played with Worth in real life yes...but the situation is still entirely hypothetical. Their teammates and opponents are obviously very different (and much higher quality) than they were in real life, so Magic and Worth having played together and winning in real life makes little difference.
Can't really compare Worthy to Pippen. Pippen would be an all time great player in his own right, Worthy? Not really.

Manu and Bird would be so fun to watch.
George was kind of surprising considering its 3 years
Worthy and Magic --- love it!

That's an unfair thing to say. Worthy never even had a chance to show what he could've done as a leader of any team, other than 1982 UNC.

It's unfair to not give him credit for something he didn't do?
Even taking into account what he did with Magic, still didn't think it was anything special. Guy is like the Chris Bosh of his time.
As soon as Magic left, Worthy was a bum. Wasn't even that old either.

No, it's unfair to dismiss him like that and denying him the benefit of the doubt. He never showed that he could or could not be a successful first option on a team because he never had the opportunity to prove it. You get my point now?

Hm? We saw him as the third option, nothing about it indicates that he could carry a team as a franchise player type.
In the context of an all time draft, he's nothing special.

BTW. It's completely false that Worthy became 'a bum' after Magic retired. He had to deal with chronic ankle injuries from 1991 onward. That's the true reason he declined.
We saw him as a third option? Sure, we also saw him as a second option, and he was pretty good in that role. He was the second fiddle to Magic from 1987 to 1991.

Worthy doesn't even have to be the 2nd option. He might draft someone later on to be that, there's plenty of capable 2nd options still on the board.

Wouldn't that make the statement that Worthy was a bum after Magic left true?

Yes, I know he had dealt with injuries, but I am pretty sure he had injuries even up to Magic's last season - yet in all of them he performed better.
I find it hard to believe that without the GOAT PG, James Worthy was going to play the best ball of his life injury or not. Even with Magic, in a high octane offense, in an extremely fast pace, his numbers are nothing special. James Worthy wasn't a good half court player.
Couldn't create, didn't have good handles, had no range. Wasn't elite in any other asset other than scoring, some would even argue he was bad at passing albeit he was a finisher by nature. I don't see it. Pippen was clearly better than him, by a lot.

Well its a good thing we don't even need to entertain the thought of Worthy without Magic. He was a great player with Magic and he's with Magic now.

He was a great player against real life teams.
This isn't real life. The Lakers don't have the benefit of having a stacked team with only one or two other teams strong enough to fight them.
There are no "role players" here, no man amongst boys. Athleticism isn't worth that much here, because every player here has that in spades amongst other talent.

Agreed. I just wanted to make a point that chemistry can be important here, like Jordan had with Pippen or Magic with Worthy, and all of a sudden I found myself arguing about Pippen vs Worthy, even though I think Scottie was clearly better.

HeartBreakKid wrote:I don't see it. Pippen was clearly better than him, by a lot.
Look, I think Pippen was much better, but Worthy deserves some credit for excelling in his role. Besides, he had an excellent post game (turnaround jumper) and was pretty money from 15 feet.

Do you doubt that he will be able to contribute in the hypothetical playoffs we're doing?

We wouldn't be having this discussion if I didn't.

Someone said that he should have been drafted in the second, which is crazy to me.

I don't know about the 2nd round but, you can't deny he's a great pair with Magic. I think most people agree Pippen was better so that's not a worry. Worthy will contribute tho, you can't deny that, especially playing with Magic. And its not even for sure that he'll be the 2nd option.

Let me guess, those guys you are shocked about are back-court players, yes?

Two of them are front court actually.

Re: PC Board All-Time Fantasy League Project - Discussion Th
I just meant like, we're doing a fantasy draft that spans 30+ years so I thought chemistry from their playing days wouldn't really be a factor. I thought it would be more about theoretical fit.
