If you're the GM, would you rather have Lopez or Gallinari?

Lopez is a better player at a more rare position. Clearly he has a lot more value than Galo.

The Knicks would instantly become legit play-off contenders and would be about 3 pieces away from championship contenders. That should answer your question.

Lol, I love the ninja Knick's fans. Overwhelming support and posts behind Lopez, but somehow the votes always sway to the unproven Gallo. This should be a no-brainer for any non-homer (on either side).

I just realized there is another thread about the same topic and sadly the biased fans already got in and made the vote 18-14. Its nice to see a solid 5-0 here.

Haha, Brook Lopez, and it's not close. At all. Gallo is good, don't get me wrong, but he's not even in the same stratosphere as Brook Lopez, a top 3 center in the NBA.

This kind of reminds me of when Knicks fans were all about Channing Frye, and thought the guy's trade value was up there with the greats. Gallo was a solid pick for NY, but he's not much more than that. He's not the next Dirk, and probably isn't even the next Bargnani. He's a solid player, and that's all.

The Knicks would end up with the better fantasy player who puts up empty stats and would lose a ton of games.

The Nets would end up with the better real life player and would actually win some games, which they couldn't do with Brook Lopez mind you.

I don't know why everyone just loves Brook Lopez but guys like Zach Randolph and SAR are pariahs.

And Gallos stats weren't empty? being a 3rd option on a 30 win team isn't that impressive.

lol right? Gallo put up 15/5 (actually 4th in ppg on the Knicks lol) for a 29 win team. The only reason Gallo doesn't come to mind as someone who pads his stats on bad teams is because his stats aren't very padded lol..15/5 ain't exactly eye-popping.

I'm not saying I'm right, but I wouldn't trade Gallo for Brook. I just wouldn't. I understand that it might even make the knicks more balanced with Brook/Amare/Chandler/SG/Felton, and it might make the Knicks better.

But I like Gallo too darn much. People who watched him last year know that he's a gifted player and I feel that NYK would be losing the talent swap to win the size swap. I wouldn't do it.

But there was a poll on this on the knicks board and the feeling was pretty divided.

considering the hate the Knicks players get in this board, it's all balances out.

if anything, all my post does is attempt to bring it up to a fair contest.

Two overrated prospects. Lopez is the clear choice here, however, at the rarer position. However, it's questionable whether or not his immediate impact would exceed that of prime Eddy Curry for the Knicks.

how'd you come to that conclusion? was it the 12 win season his team posted last season?

but being the first option on one of the worst teams in history is?

actually, when he's the fourth option on a team who wasn't running the coaches system, and with a a team fulla chuckers it is.

I don't get the whole talent swap argument though. If you were trading Gallo for, say, a Marcus Camby, who's not really a skilled big man, just a guy who crashes the boards and blocks shots, I can understand. But Lopez is a guy that put up 19 ppg last season, primarily from the low post. He's got great footwork and hands, and he also has a nice midrange jumper. A guy who puts up close to 20/10, with a low post game, great footwork, soft hands, and a decent jumper is a pretty damn skilled big man imo. Gallo is skilled for his position, while Lopez is skilled for his position. And Lopez is probably the 3rd best center in the East, behind Howard and Bogut. If he improves his defense, which is very doable under Avery and Sam Mitchell, I think he surpasses Bogut.

As individual players, they're probably about equal, however Brook fills a bigger position of need, which makes him more valuable
