We did a peaks project last year.

Went 40 deep.

Thanks for the answer, I wasn't aware of that. I'd like to participate in one of these. Perhaps in the future.

There is a way to filter out of the pretender and real contender of GOAT peak.

1. Championship year
2. Take both the regular season and playoff in account.
3. Their dominant has to translate well with advance stat.

With those 3 simple criteria, you can then filter out a lot of fake and the real GOAT peak.

I agree with points 2 and 3, but I really don't like point 1. For example - Moses won a championship in 1983, playing 91 games (78 in RS, 13 in playoffs), 2009 LeBron played 95 games (81 RS and 14 in playoffs). LeBron played more games, but didn't even make the finals. I fail to see how it would make sense to argue Moses as superior just because he won a title and LeBron didn't, because individually, LeBron was better in the regular season as well as in the playoffs. Even in the series that his team lost, James was absolutely amazing, averaged 38.5/8/8 on 59% TS. Strong argument can be made that LeBron never had better playoffs than he did in 2009, even in his championship seasons in 2012 and 2013.

Every players will tell you that they sacrifice their number somewhat in one form or another in order to win championship. That's why you often see players' number drops when they play on a championship team. Of course, the great one will do their best to maximize their number during their championship run. That's why I think Lebron's peak should be 2012 and not 2009. He was playing on a bad team and putting huge number is easier on a bad supporting cast team.

Btw, there is two form of peak we need to understand here. One is the overall peak which is include postseason, championship run. The other is the "general peak" which simply measure a player performance. In this general peak, you then can discount the championship run and as a matter of fact, I wouldn't even take their postseason into account because the postseason success can be attribute to the supporting cast you play with. It is out of a player control.
