Lowest reasonable ranking for Wilt?
I've seen a lot of hate on this board for Wilt the past few years including 1 guy not including Wilt in his top 20. What's the lowest reasonable ranking you have for Wilt?

Re: Lowest reasonable ranking for Wilt?
I don't do GOAT lists, but IMO Wilt is locked in at 3. Can't put him ahead of Jordan or Russell, but I don't think I'd consider drafting anyone else ahead of him other than those two.
Now that's the difference between first and last place.

Wilt and Kobe are the hardest guys to rank when it comes to realgm, but I honestly cannot see him out of the top 5, he was just way to dominant and did win.

Wilt top 3 at least. His numbers are mind boggling.

I've been meaning to ask mysticbb/sideshow how they have him at 10. I usually trust their rankings and I'm curious as to how their systems slot him down there.

Guys with an argument over Wilt:
Jordan
Russell
Kareem
Magic
Duncan
Hakeem
Shaq
Lebron
Bird
Kobe
KG
West
Oscar
So about 14th. Wilt's somebody who I used to think was unquestionably top 3, but this board changed my opinion a lot. Wilt's one of those guys who looks less and less impressive the deeper you look into his career.

Russel, Kareem, MJ, Magic, Shaq, Kobe, Duncan, Bird are all over him.
Hakeem and Lebron should over him too.

In pure individual ability, he is up there with shaq and kaj as the greatest centre ever but I rank him lower because he only won 2 titles, only 1 actually as the Bonafide man on the team. So like Kobe lowest i can rank him is 11.

This same thread was made last year.

The main things holding his reputation down in the last few years:
*The questionable ORTG and DRtg team estimates (which differ a great deal in some cases from Dean Oliver's estimates)
*His points per game and FG%/TS% raw playoff production. This has contributed to the idea of him being a poor playoff performer (one of the worst myths in sports history)
*The "Sports Guy" and his new book. Never mind the inaccuracies and lies, but when a sports blogger develops such a large cult following, they tend to automatically adopt his opinions as their own, with no second thought.

Wouldn't it be obvious what centers it could only be?
Russell
Kareem
Shaq
Hakeem

I have Wilt only behind Kareem. Wilt is clearly better than the other 3

Re: Lowest reasonable ranking for Wilt?
Probably around 8-10.
Wilt's playoff career doesn't strike me as GOAT worthy.
I currently rank him at 8th behind Jordan, Kareem, Shaq, Russell, Magic, Duncan & Hakeem.
In his younger high scoring years his offensive efficiency was often poor in the playoffs despite the overall competition (sans Russell) not appearing to be anything overly special.
Plus his teams in many of those years either didn't make any noise, disappointed or got far but faltered at the end.
Obviously how valuable Wilt was in those years is based on the perspective a person holds.
Some people think he overachieved and some believe he disappointed when the pressure of the playoffs took hold and the best competition confronted him.
It really wasn't until his later years where he was able to take a smaller role offensively, focus more on rebounding & defense and not really have to handle the scoring load of a true offensive anchor where he saw the most team success and won his two Rings.
Still Wilt (like Russell) are two of the hardest players to judge.
The league back then was quite different to the league in future decades and the video we have of those times is quite limited.
I try my best not to hold any concrete opinions when it comes to players from back then because I don't want to unfairly put them down or prop them up.
