I'm not basing it on how long you have been around so welcome; as long as you stick with it and post reasons as well as rankings, you are welcome to join.

I've added up some more team affiliations for you. Could the people I've missed please tell us what team you're a fan of, so it can be added to Pen's list at the beginning?

I'd love to participate. I've been waiting for the new version of the top 100 and will try to contribute as far as my knowledge allows me to.
BTW, I'm a Spurs fan.

You can formally count me as a Blazers fan, guys, but I doubt I'm particularly slanted towards any of their players.

I'm a Heat guy. LeBron, Wade and Alonzo are the players you should look out for me to overrate in the project. Obviously I'll try to be as objective as I can however.

Don't have a franchise affiliation. I guess a family member being somewhat a Magic fan influenced me slightly sympathetically for them so if you are really desperate to have a team next to my username, I guess that's the one.

Just so I know the level of involvement needed- I have to have my 100 list done by Friday, submitted, and then we will go through each spot one at a time and discuss why we believe a certain player should be there over someone else?
Or do I need my reasoning placed with each player when I submit on Friday?

Okay Brand, Michael Jackson didn't come over to my house to use the bathroom. But his sister did.

Re: NBA Top 100 LIST -- If you want to participate, sign up
Dang, the board just lost a huge poster in mysticbb...hopefully he'll come back once he is unbanned. I don't even mind that he can be condescending...some posters simply spread misinformation and contribute nothing. If someone is intellectually dishonest then I have no problem with someone calling them out on their bs. His value in his statistical research and insight far outweighs some harmless breaking off the TOS.
I saw that my name is on there...while I would love to be on the panel, I know that my enthusiasm outside of the Top 20 just won't be there so you can take me off (I don't even think I have the time or patience to intelligently come up with a Top 100 list that I could defend past the Top 20). I will certainly be a part of the discussions, though!

So when is this plane going down? I'll ride it til' it hits the ground!

Is that a requirement? I don't have a top 100 list but I am absolutely determined to participate in the entire project. I just don't think I can compile one in advance and without the help of the other posters it would be a hassle even to separate the players into tiers once I get beyond the top 10 or 15.

No.
See Penbeast (the lead guy on the 100 project)
penbeast0 wrote:fpliii wrote:ElGee wrote:Anyone can participate in discussion -- I don't think that's ever been questioned. But the idea behind a list is to basically force some deeper learning on participants. It's MORE important for people like TC and fpliii who do not have a list. If they wanted to discuss players only, it would not matter, but being forced to make critical decisions on your own, uncover gaps in your own research, etc. generates a sense of commitment (so people stick around), and thus the reason to use it as a barometer to entry.
I understand where you're coming from here, and if I do decide to participate in the project, I would certainly supply some sort of list. If I'm unable to produce a top 50 list, I don't think it would make sense for me to be voting.
Even if I'm incapable of doing this though, I'd definitely be interested in chiming in occasionally in the project threads.Texas Chuck wrote:Now I'm going to start putting together a top 50 list since it seems really important to a number of posters I respect, but I'll admit I'm skeptical that I'll become a more-worthy candidate for participation based on my having done so.
I'll attempt to do so as well, just to put something out there. I don't think I can produce something I'd be incredibly confident in, but I think I could put something together based on my notes and eyeballing the data I have (to generate ratings to be input to generate championship probability shares using ElGee's method). Just to get something rough (even if it's not to precise) out there in advance of my participation.
When does the project begin?
Lists are NOT required. DoctorMJ is putting together a separate thread with lists prior to the Top 100 project but I find that I don't want to make one and would prefer to take each vote or discussion as it comes.
FWIW the idea seems to be a comination of one mooted months ago by Wigglestrue (who is basically cited in Dr MJ's thread opener) and the notion in the RealGM Top 100 list criteria thread that a . The idea met with a mixed reception, some support based on the idea that it would weed out the non-committed, give those taking part a feeling of commitment and thus motivation to stay the course, and provide some practice reasoning through your own rankings; some less favourable responses based primarily on the idea that people having publically stated a position are more likely to stick rigidly to it.
