Klay Thompson thread 2014-15

Post#1 » by ardee » Sun Nov 2, 2014 5:08 am

Might be an overreaction but he looked like God in this last game, and based off the preseason I think he's primed for a MASSIVE year.

41 points on 93.3% TS, just 18 shots.

The better Curry gets, the better Thompson is gonna get, and I honestly don't know how you guard against these two together.

They are definitely turning into a nightmarish matchup for the opposition defense.

I' expect that Klay is going to average more points this year than Curry and that's scary.
Most 4th Quarter Points in Final since 1991
1995 Shaquille O'Neal 11.5
2000 Shaquille O'Neal 11.5 (61.1% TS)
2015 Stephen Curry 10.8 (75.1% TS)
1997 Michael Jordan 10.7 (55.1% TS)
1998 Michael Jordan 10.6 (50.6% TS)
2011 Dirk Nowitzki 10.3 (68.0% TS)

I've been really impressed with his basketball IQ and decision making more than anything. He's shown a good sense of knowing where his teammates are at all times and making the correct pass or heads up play. He could average 4apg this year.

He's probably one of the most dominant catch and shoot player in NBA history.
This man is a monster. He deserve to be compared to PnR roll men.
I don't think it's overreaction. This is the 2nd coming of Reggie Miller.

And the difference is Klay can actually do stuff other than Reggie. He can post up and is a pretty beastly defender.

I think he's the future of the 2-guard position along with Harden and Lance (unfortunately).

Yea that's the part that's overrated with more then 60% of his shots being catch and shoot. He rarely post up and Reggie wasn't just a spot up shooter. Towards the end he was mostly spot ups but more valuable offensively then Klay.
As for a defender certainly better. As this season goes on we will see if the two way player is deserved. Throughout his career he's been adequate. He's been a Melo level team defender with the rep of AK47.

another great game on both ends, and hit a tough go ahead basket against a very good Wes Matthews.

Great game, I'm not sure who could pick harden over him for the future. Klay has a chance to be superior on offense while their defensive gap is huge.

He has a good chance of hitting a amazing SG peak with an unstoppable jump shot and good creation/passing. Plus his athleticism is a little better than young Kobe IMO, his handles just need a little work and then the game should open up like crazy for him.

I'd say there's a 20 percent chance of him hitting the peak tier of 03 T MAC, 08 Bryant or 09 Wade ( ok kidding on that 1 :D )

If only Andre Igoudala didn't massively regress on offense or if say they would definitely be in the WCF

Wait, what? :-?

Not sure if you are being serious here but I see literally no chance Klay is ever going to reach 08 Kobe/09 Wade level.

Ok better is probably too far, id say quite similar even if Kobe has an edge

Well he is an underrated athlete and I think young Kobe was a bit overrated because he had such a deadly handle that he could get anywhere on the floor.

Kobe could definitely jump higher and had slightly better lateral ability

I'm saying I think klay is a stronger slightly bigger version of a young Kobe athletically maybe minus some quickness and burst but his added size lessens the gap a little

As a Dubs fan I think this is pushing it.

It's like saying DeRozan is a slightly bigger version of a young Vince Carter minus some hops but that his size lessens the gap.

Athletically Klay is like a 7/10, but that's not where he makes his bread (similarly to Curry)

Maybe I'm off base here, but I assumed that when someone referred to Thompson as "one of the most dominant catch and shoot player in NBA history" during early November of the first season that he was at all relevant to all-star conversations was meant to be a bit of a joke.

Sufficed to say, I wouldn't starting trashing Reggie Miller just yet.

Wow, this thread just blew my mind. Are we really comparing Klay Thompson to Kobe, T-Mac and Reggie?

-edit-

We should revisit this discussion around the all-star break to see if all this hype was warranted.

What makes Reggie better than klay.

Both great shooters
Neither can create for themselves at an elite level
Below average passers/rebounders

But klay is significantly better as a defender
We can get paper longer than Pippens arms
