Top NBA performances of the 21st century

Post#1 » by chrispak98 » Sun Mar 8, 2015 11:42 pm

(No troll posts please)

Hey guys! I don't really post here too much (Too many trolls and "player haters" TBH :/) but...

In your opinion, what do you think are the top performances in NBA history since 2000?

Also, if you had to rank the following performances below, what order would they be in?
(Note that most performances are in the postseason, due to the fact that postseason games have much more impact)

1.LeBron's 48 point game against Detroit (NBA postseason record 25 points IN A ROW, destroyed Pistons mini-dynasty by himself, looked better than Michael Jordan, hit fade-away 3s, pull-up jumpers, drove to the rim, couldn't be stopped)
2.LeBron's 45 against Boston 2012( Jordanesque in the First Half, played like a man on a mission)
3.Kobe Bryant's 81 against Toronto (Regular season, but just the sheer amount of points he put up + most points since Wilt)
4.Shaq's 43/19 against Indiana (Statement game, first finals game that propelled the 3-peat)
5.Dwyane Wade's 42/13 against Dallas (Game 3, dropped 15 points in the 4th quarter, prevented Dallas from taking 3-0 lead)
6.Duncan's 32/20/6/3/7 against New Jersey (Game 1 2003 Finals)
7.Allen Iverson's 48 (Only win against 2001 Lakers)
8.Gilbert Arenas' 60/8/8 (Overtime win, most points EVER in an overtime period (16))

If I were to rank these performances 1-8, mine would go: (In order) 1,3,5,4,2,6,8,7

How about Dirk's 48-point performance in game 1 of the 2011 WCF against OKC? He shot 12/15 from the field, and made all 24 free throws he attempted. 93.9% TS...

Garnett's 32 PTS, 21 REB, 5 BLK, 4 STL game 7 of 2004 WCSF against Kings deserves consideration.

He kept Serge Ibaka and Nick Collison in foul trouble. It was unfair and abusive.

What about Rondo's 44.

No doubt a great performance by Klay, but come on, top 10 worthy in 15 years? Klay's performance might not even be the best of THIS year

I'm definitely not denying that it was a spectacular performance, probably the 2nd best performance this year...

But it wasn't the top performance this year, and it DEFINITELY does not belong in a top 10 list for the ENTIRE 21st century. What Klay did was amazing, 37 in a quarter is legit, but it was:

a) Regular Season
b)Wasn't dominant (AKA LeBron/Kobe/Wade). In other words, as you watched the game you didnt have the "feeling" that you usually have when a player is putting his imprint on the game
c)Wasn't superstarish in the other 3 quarters
d)Wasn't memorable. For example, LeBron dropped "only" 48 in his game 5 against Detroit but we remember it as a top 3 playoff performance of all time because of the context and everything. Klay didnt have that aura with him during the game

How about Kobe's 48 pts. and 16 boards to close out the Kings in 2001 with Doug Christie as his primary defender?

The first games I think of for LeBron is 'The Stare' game, and the headband game.

Curry's 54 at the Garden is up there.

Kobe's 81 obviously, and although it's not that appreciated, him willing the Lakers to the 7th seed in 2013 is one of the most incredibly stretches of games I've seen.

Duncan's near quadruple doubles.

I don't know where it could fit in, but Lebron's game 7 in 2013 was amazing. 37 points (tied a 50 something year record) -12 rebounds -4 assists and sealed the game/series. I think because of game 6 that this game gets lost in some people's memory but this game was very close, it was a Duncan lay-up from being tied with under a minute to go.

Anyway, I don't know where it fits but thought it should get a mention.

Ooh, yeah LeBron's game 7 was definitely a dominant performance, but his 45 against Boston and his 25 in a row vs Detroit in game 5 were GALAXIES ahead of his game 7 performance. That's not a knock on Bron, but its more of a compliment on how good the guy is. As for how good the performance was in terms of the 21st century, I would definitely put it somewhere between 15-20

Bumping after Kyrie's incredible game. He may bump out Arenas for that 8th spot

Off the top of my head without looking up box scores:

1) LeBron James Game 6 of the 2012 ECF - possibly the greatest individual performance ever, circumstances considered.
2) LeBron James Game 5 of the 2007 ECF
3) Kobe Bryant 81-point eruption vs. Toronto
4) Kobe Bryant 62 in 3 quarters vs. Dallas
5) Dirk Nowitzki 48 points on 15 shots in Game 1 of the 2011 WCF

Those are the ones that I vividly remember that stand out to me as iconic all-time great individual performances.
