Kobe, MJ, Lebron, KD: Which is the best ISO player?

Post#1 » by chrismikayla » Sat Apr 18, 2015 12:12 am

Obviously all of the guys were/are greats but who do you think was the best one on one player at:

1. Taking his man one on one scoring at will.

AND

2. Creating great opportunities for his teammates in isolation.

What would your list look like?

Hard to tell. Kobe can be 2/10 on iso and keep shooting. At the end he will be 10/20.
LeBron will stop playing iso at 2/10.
KD will shoot 3's at 2/10.

In my opinion LeBron and Kobe are more skilled than KD at this point and they can score anywhere on the floor, but KD is younger and by far a better shooter. And he is taller, so can shoot over anybody.

Kobe, definitely. He had the best handle of the 4, on top of also possessing all the requisite skills you'd want from a perimeter player. He was the best at breaking his man down off the dribble and getting a shot off. MJ was the best 5-on-5 offensive player ever, since he possessed the best blend of off-ball and on-ball scoring skills, but he didn't have Kobe's ball handling skills in isos.

Durant and 2nd 3peat Jordan are the best iso scorers

Jordan. Quickest first step to go around his defender. Best footwork out of the four choices. Best midrange game out of the four choices. Best turn around and fade away out of the four choices and could finish around the rim with his athleticism, quickness, grace, strength and finesse better than the other choices.

I feel people are overrating Michael Jordan in this thread. Kobe Bryant, even if not a superior player, is one of, if not the best isolation players we will ever see. His ball-handling and footwork in wing isolation is unmatched.

I would then likely pick Michael Jordan because he was also fantastic in isolation, his scoring ability was amazing.

Next is LeBron due to his incredible combination of size, ball-handling, and talent.

Last is Kevin Durant. He is an amazing scorer, but his ball-handling and post-up game is weak compared to the rest on this list.

People think Kobe is harder to guard in isolation than Michael? Like for real, in real life, people think that?

Jordan. Scored 51 points at age 38 and 43 points at age 40 when his body and legs were totally shot. It was his footwork, ball handling and intelligence that allowed him to score like that. Kobe hasn't had a 50 point game since he was 30 years old. Call me when drops 50 at age 38. Not even close.

MJ was the best scorer 1 v 1.

Lebron was definitely the best playmaker.
