Curry/Draymond vs. CP3/Blake

Post#1 » by Jim Naismith » Mon Nov 23, 2015 6:42 pm

At their peaks, which duo would you take for one year?

    Stephen Curry + Draymond Green
    vs.
    Chris Paul + Blake Griffin

Vote in the above poll.

Note: The peaks don't have to coincide. For example, you can have 2008 CP3 + 2016 Blake.

Currry/Draymond

CP3/Blake are awesome and CP3 is my favorite player but they have never seemed like a perfect fit and I'd still have to get defense

That's an exaggeration first, and second immaterial to his point since neither Paul nor Curry are significant impact defenders from a team perspective. Draymond is one of the best defenders in the entire league, and you can envision any team he's on being able to crank out a top 7 or so defense assuming competent coaching. He's the only player here who can make such a claim.

Curry and Draymond just broke CP3/Blake's confidence and swag the other day.

2008 CP3 >> 2016 CP3, and we're dealing with peak versions of each player here.

Then please, go ahead and provide evidence that 2008 Paul is a better defensive player than Curry. Good luck with that. Not to mention that it is far from being clear that 2008 Paul as a player - i.e. we're not taking season- and/or team-context into account - is superior to his 2015 version.

one thing for sure, CP3 gets away with as many fouls as any players in this league. He can play PHYSICAL by pushing/shoveling around guards and the refs wouldn't dare blow a whistle. maybe the whining works after all.

as for peak play, CP3/Blake wins slightly as we haven't seen this new Curry for one entire season yet. And if Green continue his 3p shooting, I might switch my pick to them later this year.

As of 2015, I would still pick Paul/Griffin (and I'm not so high on Paul as others)... Griffin was simply on another level than Green. He clearly played like a Top5 player in the league in the playoffs...
But seeing the way the Warriors play this season... especially Curry and Green of course... I might change my vote by the end of the season. Curry has elevated his game, and Green... wow.

Bernard King (82-84) Vlade Divac (95-97) Derek Harper (88-90) Dan Majerle (91-93) Josh Smith (10-12)

CP3/Blake. Draymond is a good player but the reason why the Warriors are great defensively is not all on him. They have tons of good defenders on that team especially Iggy.
