Do you think LeBron is demanding that the Cavs trade for Butler because he knows Jimmy is the only guy in the East who can lock him down and the only way to avoid a loss at the hands of the Bulls in next year's playoffs would be to get Jimmy on his own team?

I actually have come around on the fact that George would be better for this team than Butler. He's a much better matchup for KD. But Butler does have a 2-year deal.

Fantasy theory: Cavs trade Love for Butler, figure out a way to trade for George anyway because his trade value is totally tanked...

PG - Kyrie
SG - Butler
SF - George
PF - LeBron
C - Thompson

I think Butler is the better KD matchup. He's better at attacking his closeouts and can pressure him better as a ballhandler while muscling his way through screens. George's body type is just an inferior version of KDs which he easily takes advantage of
LeBron's NBA Cup MVP is more valuable than either of KD's Finals MVPs. This is the word of the Lord

Hasn't KD generally roasted Butler in the past though?

Get the guy who guards you best on your own team so you never face a bad matchup. The Michael Jordan playbook.

According to the head to head matchups (wholly unreliable I know) KD roasts PG (31ppg on 53% FG) even harder than he roasts Jimmy Butler (27ppg on 52% FG). So yeaaaa neither look good. I just know from my eye test (wholly unreliable I know) that Butler is the type of player KD matches up "worst" with. That's why I predicted before the finals that Shump would be their "best" KD defender (oh God) and was somewhat proven to be true.

For all I know this is the year KD follows Dirks path and develops a mid post game to remedy his trouble with strong smaller guys.

Probably not going to happen but I'd love if Cavs just went all in this year and do this:

+ Chi gets #4 and Pacers get CLE top 5 protected 2021 and CLE unprotected 2023

I've seen the whole Gilbert-LeBron relationship thing and it's clear LeBron still doesn't like him ( iirc in the whole Draymond and LeBron at the barbershop special he stated he never forgave Gilbert for the letter) so I think people are really underestimating the chances he leaves.

Gilbert is deep in the luxury tax and probably doesn't want to do anything to increase that as these trades, especially a Paul George one would do. So I think there's the real probability that Gilbert is giving LeBron an out so to speak because he doesn't want to start paying 100's of millions in tax money in 2019-2020 to keep the cavs a contender.

If I were Gm I'd try turn Kyrie/ shump / love and filler into butler /Thad/pg and delly

Possibly target Lin over delly. That teams defense would be insane.

Lebron didn't really mention his feelings toward Gilbert in that but it's clear he doesn't like him.

He did say his mum and wife were so against him coming back. But he did anyway. Doubt he leaves because of sour relationship with Gilbert.

can someone explain to me how's the Cavs talking trades with other teams right now? I mean with Griffin out, who's in charge at this very moment?

this is a bit confusing

I'm starting to wonder if this is the beginning of the end.

I was all for PG and I would be all for Butler - but damn we just need one guy that can guard KD aside from LeBron. They don't have to a be a star...they just need to have the height, quickness and ability to hit an open 3.

Trading Love seems to be the most feasible way of getting that player.

But now I'm wondering if the Pacers and Bulls both say no to the Cavs (and let's be honest, they probably should since we're division rivals), what will we do? Roll into next year and try to make a trade to acquire said player to guard KD?

Or is this the dam breaking? And instead of trying to patch it, is Gilbert just going to sit down and let the water drown him..?

Beverley on the trading block apparently.

Would be pretty perfect for the Cavs. Wonder what the Rockets are looking for?

Do you think they would go for Frye? Or do they have enough stretch bigs already?

He's be a perfect fit for them though, but I'd hate to lose him in the locker room for this team.

That would probably be ideal, though I don't know if that deal would happen. It would probably have to be PG instead of Butler, Cleveland just doesn't have the assets for Butler and Bev.

I feel like Chicago is trying to create a bidding war between the Cavs and the Celtics, which the Cavs will definitely lose. I'm starting to believe George's Lakers or bust mentality. Butler's a worse fit though, no?
