Idk about y’all, but this is really, really cool to me. I think what JJ said a while back Re: plumber / firemen was a bit out of line, but aside from that - I don’t think he has any bad intentions as an analyst in spite of coming off a bit pretentious.
As for the product itself, I think a lot of basketball analysis nowadays can be more reliant on stats than tracking and understanding the game from a holistic perspective / including from a players’ approach (well beyond Ball Don’t Stop type of **** about how Kyrie, AI, etc are frightening covers because of their pure hooping skills). Cool gesture on James’ behalf to be involved in this podcast. Obviously with a large following & platform he has, I’d assume more people gain interest in seeing basketball *that* way - which would help discourse a lot.
Am I the only person that doesn't care about this at all? Lebron is one of the most boring athletes I've ever listened to in my life. He's so self conscious about his image that he rarely says anything interesting or insightful imo. Another reason he doesn't seem to say much of note is that he seems extraordinarily insecure about his intelligence for some reason and so just says things that he thinks other people thinks is smart, so much so he feels the need to lie about random **** like reading the Godfather or reciting quotes. Don't think he'd be a particularly riveting character to listen to in long form content.

Great Brazilian Olympic player, played in Europe but not the NBA. Pure scorer type.

Lebron is my favourite basketball player of all time. He's also not a very interesting person to listen to. Not sure why you'd think these things would be mutually exclusive, nor why you'd think that'd make me a LeBron hater.
Everything I also said is true. Other celebrities made fun of him to his face on Barber Shop for randomly lying about weird **** lol.

He is not giving you a lecture in politics and art, it is a freaking basketball podcast. Pretty much the only thing I'm sure LeBron knows what he is talking about. I have no idea why you would think otherwise.

The only thing being an NBA player gives you is insight into being an NBA player, it doesn't make you an expert at evaluating basketball. It's 2024, we have more than enough evidence that illustrates and very little to the contrary. I've heard enough athlete testimonials by now, I feel like once you've heard a few things you've heard them all.
Lebron's personal unique stories about the wacky antics that took place during his career and his personal feelings would be a lot of fun, IF he talks about those things, which I doubt I will as much as he does generic sports podcast stuff.
Edit - I'm listening to it right now and it's as meh as I anticipated.

The issue is all of the generic podcasts now do exactly what you want. Which I find very boring. Just random boring stories to highlight whatever narrative they believe. 99% are also very limited in their scope of basketball knowledge.
Lebron isn't going to be an expert evaluator, no current player can be, but he will offer more insight then almost anyone on the court right now. Which, like it or not, is plenty more than a big portion viewers (casuals)
What's forgotten with Lebron is a lot of his entire public persona has been scripted/crafted since he was 18. To judge him like a regular person is completely off base because every day is alien like to most people.
Most of what he has had to say is 'safe' which is boring, but not sure what else is expected.
I enjoyed the first Ep. Didn't come across as anything you mentioned tbh and is not like the generic nonsense we see. It's not gamebreakong but it's at least a bit different.

I like what he said in that first episode about identifying whoever's scouting talent over in OKC and hiring them on his team when he owns one eventually. He clearly understands that talent evaluation is a complex matter and isn't as simple as someone going, "dang he can ball".
I'm speculating, but I think for him he went through a bit of a back-and-forth in that the first 7 years of his career, it was absolute letdown after absolute letdown from the Cavs front-office when he was sitting back and watching teams like Boston, LAL, and SA constantly making sound moves (obviously, not in perfection, but still many sound moves by those three teams) and their front-offices able to ID talent either via FA (another issue here given Cleveland didn't want to spend, plus IDing right talent), drafts or trades, not to mention coaches (yes I know Doc is a laughingstock but he was a championship coach back then (literally 1, but it was amidst this timeline for LeBron) given they all had championship coaches).
Jumps out to Miami because he's had enough of Cleveland farce, and over the years (2010-) really begun offering input into team composition, coaches, etc., particularly post-Miami, some of which boded well and some which didn't, because, as he clearly enunciated, there are people far more qualified at evaluating talent, be it basketball players or coaches.
So I do think he's come back around some but not like it was back in his first stint in Cleveland. To be honest, who can blame him given the joke that the LAL FO has been anyway?

Dafuq? Who said anything about judging him for it? I just said I find it boring. I'm simply not interested in listening to someone who's been crafting an optically optimized and sanitised public persona since they were 18. Why is this such an issue lol.
And the first thing they were talking about were what intangibles makes a player great, which seems like it'd be pretty generic to me but I didn't listen past 10 minutes so who knows.

That's the last user you want to call a Lebron hater. Wording could prpbably acknowledge itself as more of an opinion but it's true Lebron isn't particular unique with his takes on current affairs or just general topics, as are most of us.

I like the post-AS break NBA where they are letting teams play. That game was right out of 2003. LeBron didn't have a good game but I liked how he stayed stayed aggressive all the way through. Lakers don't win this one with a passive LeBron.
GS lost so it was a W night for the Lakers. They are bound to face each other in the play-in and homecourt will be everything.

Only other hope otherwise is the Suns falling. They have a gauntlet of a schedule, but (1) idk if that could be enough to make up a 3 game deficit with 13 games & (2) that becomes all the more true with a team as inconsistent as LAL.
Suns opponents in the last 12 games:
• Spurs X2
• Nuggets
• Thunder
• Pelicans X2
• Cavs
• Wolves X2
• Clippers X2
• Kings
If Phoenix finishes like 5-7, I think LA would have the tiebreaker if they could close out the year 8-4 (which is still a pretty tall ask lol)

That podcast is clearly going to be more for Xs and Os nerds and philosophizing about basketball in order to generate higher level discourses. It's not everyone's cup of tea. Some people like being spoon-fed narratives as their form of entertainment and care very little about nuances and insights into what makes players tick.
LeBron seems to be a regular joe with God given abilities and dedication. Just a chill, goofy, and nerdy guy overall. I don't really find it bland tbh but I guess most people can only conceive of NBA players being interesting if they're portrayed in the Suave and mysterious manufactured demeanor Jordan was presented in vs LeBron just being presented as an average smart guy
LeBron's NBA Cup MVP is more valuable than either of KD's Finals MVPs. This is the word of the Lord

There is a chance Sac even starts to drop
Likely we stay put at 9, but I wonder if we can creep into the 7/8 play in
We have a pretty easy schedule
Now we just need some luck

Honestly astounding they're gonna miss the top 8 simply because it took Ham forever to figure out he should play the lineup that got them to the WCF last year. He's so stupid it hurts.

By now it's management that is so stupid it hurts. It's literally the easiest part of the roster to upgrade. I don't know how anyone thinks there is a championship coach in there worth sacrificing seasons for. He should have been gone the second he showed he didnt understand 3pt defense or when he showed his understanding smallball to be a bit too literal. Just ask anyone who has watched a Budenholzer coached playoff series. Guaranteed at least one game per series where they blow their advantage insisting on some outdated belief.
That in-season tournament one million dollars probably still hitting management good.
