I'm not sure at all that SAS would be interested, it would mean that they really want a specific player, but what would you think of trading 1st(+filler) for 4th+8th ?

Why would we want two picks that would be out of the top 3 in a supposedly weak draft?
I'd only entertain #1 for #4 and our 2025 1st round pick back. Otherwise kick rocks.

It only depends on why it's a weak draft
If it's a weak draft partly because the top4 players will be just a bit better than the 10 following players, it would make even more sense to have 2 guys having almost the same level than the only one we're supposed to pick

Now, depending on needs, if you do it to fill 2 needs and the guys that can do it are gone just before 4th and just before 8th, it wouldn't be a great result

Congrats Hawks fans. It is good to see a team that was not tanking get that top pick. It shows the new system is working.

Me personally, I don't believe it's as weak of a draft as the media/experts make it out to be, but that's only because I think this draft has more higher ceiling/lower floor guys than what other drafts typically have, yet still lacks a surefire generational talent(s). Lots of question marks. Higher risks overall.

For comparison, 2019 had a lot of high floor guys after the Big 2(Zion/Ja). The internationals weren't highly regarded either. All 3 of them were practically late risers. Some pundits considered 2019, the year of the role players. That's how much of a ceiling a lot of prospects had.

To clarify what I mean, there's probably 6-8 guys from this class that could've gave RJ Barrett a run for his money as the 3rd prospect overall drafted.

To answer your original question, I wouldn't trade out of #1 unless we got #4, #8, and our own 2025 pick. That's coming from a guy who thinks Sarr would be a perfect fit for our core though(Trae, JJ, OO).

People always dog the Hawks, or Atlanta sports in general, but I always defend the Hawks and say, Hawks are only 1 in 3 NBA teams to never get a #1 overall pick, and you can't count the David Thompson because he never signed, so how are you going to win a championship when you don't have a chance to draft a Duncan, Shaq, Hakeem, Isiah, Magic, Lebron, etc

Hawks have no championships but also no #1 overall picks, while other franchises like the Spurs, Bucks, Blazers, Magic, Rockets have had four to five #1 picks in their history, and they are not even as old as the Hawks.

I'm not sure getting the #1 in this year's draft is justice but it does show how unfair professional sports are when giving each city a fair shot a building a franchise.

Great, but so Hawks at the same time, getting the top pick in a weak draft :D

They also called the Anthony Edwards draft a weak draft remember.

Also the Anthony Davis draft was widely touted as a weak draft with no legit star or #1 talent.

I can only count 3 drafts in the last 20 years were the experts and tv heads called it weak, the Edwards draft, AD draft, and Anthony Bennett draft. So 2 of the 3 draft actually ended up having stars that surprised everybody.

The people calling this draft weak probably know nothing about the international talent.

Just to be honest, I only said this because I thought we were going to draft at #10. With the zero gone and Hawks at #1 bienvenue à Atlanta Alexandre Sarr :D

Getting the #1 pick with a .500 type team with loads of talent could be a game changer

Congrats Hawks fans. Pretty wild to be a play-in team and get the first overall pick? Do you think this will force the front office to move Trae?

It needs to be Sarr. 7'1 with great athletic ability, long, defense oriented, already shoots 70% from FT so he has potential to be able to hit jumpers, and can already put the ball on the floor very well for a guy his size. No brainer pick IMO

Why? Is Sarr considered a generational talent to build around? Thought this is considered a 'weak' draft.

I don’t buy that this is a weak draft. It’s a pretty common narrative. There are no Wemby’s at the top of the draft but there is some allstar potential. Not just Sarr but there’s no way the Hawks will rebuild with Trae on the team. Although a Sarr/Trae pick and roll/pop could be really good. Guess the Hawks could always trade Murray and run with the youth movement.

I don't think Hawks are going the rebuild route. Pick #1 or #10 wasn't going to change the immediate fortunes in winning next season. The rest of the roster constructure still needed to be addressed for that to happen.
