Four Hawks listed in SI Top 100 Players List

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Wed Sep 17, 2014 6:40 pm

Back to actual Basketball talk. Teague, Korver, Millsap and Horford all listed in top 100.
Horford of courseis the highest rated Hawk at No. 25. (Enjoy him while you can Hawks fans.)
Millsap is listed at 34, the highest he's ever been rated.
Korver is listed at 74.
Teague makes the cut at 92.

Glad to have most of our starting 5 in the top 100, though the general consensus among Hawk fans is that Teague is too low. Millsap getting recognized bodes well for his Free Agency next summer. (He is getting PAID!!!)
Horford still gets the most respect, which is a relief. Management will have to decide shortly whether to extend his contract and build around the big man, or deal him and start a full on rebuild.

Korver's career resurrection is one of the most impressive things I've ever seen...beyond anything I could have expected from him.

KYLE KORVER, HAWKS - 77
Forward | Age: 33
6-7, 212 pounds
Last year: No. 98
2013-14 statistics
• 12.0 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 2.9 APG, 47.5 FG%, 47.2 3P%
• 13.6 PER, 5.9 Win Shares, 1.1 RAPM

As Atlanta’s season went sideways because of injuries, it became clear that Korver -- a fine, active all-around player -- wasn’t going to make a sudden, late-career leap from quality niche filler to lead option on a solid offense. But his positive impact on both sides of the ball was indisputable: With Korver on the court, Atlanta’s offensive efficiency rose from 100.3 to 105.4 and its defensive efficiency improved from 106.5 to 102.4.

KK jumps up 21 spots from last season. Due in no small part to the streak that shook the world...

JEFF TEAGUE, HAWKS - 92
Guard | Age: 26
6-2, 181 pounds
Last year: No. 78
2013-14 statistics
• 16.5 PPG, 6.7 APG, 2.6 RPG, 43.8 FG%, 32.9 3P%
• 17.2 PER, 5.2 Win Shares, -0.7 RAPM

Where Teague struggles is in deciding when to drive into the help (to draw contact) and when to steer around it, a split difference leading to both an underwhelming performance on attempts in the restricted area and a free-throw rate that’s lower than it could be. Teague's jumper is in a similar middle ground, as his good balance and follow-through haven’t translated to consistent accuracy.

Teague falls from 78 to 92 after an uneven season. Sandwiched between JJ Redick and Ersan Ilyasova. (Yikes!)

That's big for them to have Al there with him out so long last year,

Slamonline does a 50 to 1 leading into the season and I doubt they'd have him at 25.
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

Teague is too low to the point where it is almost laughable. On the bright side I am sure ESPN will have him in a more respectable spot.

CBS Sports List Horford among top 15 NBA Players

Post#7 » by Jamaaliver » Sun Oct 5, 2014 7:03 am

CBS Sports rankings put AH pretty damn high. Ahead of Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, Kawhi Leonard, James Harden and Dirk. Right behind Carmelo and Joakim:

13. Al Horford
Atlanta Hawks | C

Horford had two panellists put him between 15 and 20 and one brave soul put him at No. 9 overall. Horford missed most of last season with a shoulder injury. He hasn't played more than 74 games since 2010. But if he's healthy, and this Hawks team can move past the distractions of the Danny Ferry disaster, Horford could have a career year.

The reality is that Horford in many ways is what Noah is billed as. He's an all-around center. He's able to score on his own out of the post, from mid-range, and even dabbled with the three-ball before the injury took him out last season. He's a smart and commited defender, versatile and long. Horford's passing is brutally underrated and he can create separation with his screens. Oh, and in any season where he's played more than 30 games, he's never averaged less than nine rebounds per 36 minutes.

Can Horford be the best player on a championship team? Probably not. But he might be the best complimentary weapon in the league, as there isn't a single team you couldn't add him to that wouldn't improve to the point of contention for a higher-level of success with him on it.
HERE

Super impressive. AH has been (IMO) the Hawks best player for years. Glad to see him get the recognition he deserves. We gotta get this guy more talent on this squad.

Teague listed as #64 by ESPN. Right in between nene and Taj Gibson. Surprisingly, just a few spots ahead of Isaiah Thomas.

This after being ranked #74 by ESPN last season and after coming in at #92 over at Sports Illustrated.http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/11667182/2014-nba-player-rankings-61-70

Final list update (by me) on this year's player rankings.

Horford of course leads the Hawks in pretty much every ranking, indicating most pundits/analysts still consider AH our best player.

ESPN ranks him at 26, which largely jives with Sports Illustrated's ranking him at 25 earlier in this summer.

Al Horford | @Al_Horford
Atlanta Hawks | PF | Age: 28 | 2013 rank: #19

The Hawks had the third-best win percentage (.552) in the Eastern Conference before Al Horford's season-ending injury on Dec. 26. They had the 10th-best win percentage (.415) after that.

Other notable ESPN Rankings:
Millsap at 32, Teague at 64.

...and John Jenkins at 387. This is the HAWK player ranking that I believe they will look the most foolish on. If his health maintains, I suspect Jenkins is on the verge of a HUUUUGE season.
