Hawks happy to see Brand back in NBA

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Sat Jan 9, 2016 1:25 am

The Hawks saw an old friend Thursday night when they faced the 76ers in Philadelphia.

Former Hawks forward Elton Brand has joined the 76ers, but he wore a sports coat instead of a jersey and did not play in Atlanta's 126-98 win.

Philadelphia signed the veteran player this week and is asking Brand to mentor young players, especially center Jahlil Okafor, the No. 3 overall pick out from Duke, the same college Brand attended.

The 36-year-old Brand is practicing with the 76ers but is not ready to play just yet. Wednesday's practice was his first full NBA workout since May. http://www.ajc.com/ap/sports/basketball/Hawks-brand-back-in-nba-with-76ers/npz6d/

It's nice to see Elton Brand past of Philly or just back in the league.
This could be his final season since he's only providing veteran leadership to a young team but I'm going to be curious to see what the future holds for him.

Nice of him to come out of retirement to help mentor a hyper-young team that REALLY needs it. I guess the reason why he has a roster spot and not a coaches clipboard is so that the players see him as one of "us" and not one of "them" in the locker room. He never really played on a contender but he certainly knows both ends of the spectrum of being on terrible teams in LA and Chicago plus solid playoff squads to give those guys perspective on how to handle their situation.
