Kings Draft Pick Watch 2025

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Mon May 1, 2023 3:40 pm

We need Sacramento to make the playoffs again next season so their pick will actually convey to us.

Preferably as a 5th or 6th seed so it definitely conveys and would be in the late teens.

Better to get the 2025 pick instead cause of the the Hawks own 2025 pick being owed to SAS. 2024 is suppose to be a really poor class so it's best not to have two 1st rounders.

They should be able to continue their growth this offseason and make the playoffs. I don't believe the Kings take ant steps backwards unless injuries are a problem.

Sounds like Sacramento is committed to remaining a playoff team and willing to forfeit pieces of their future to do it.

Fortunate for us since we own a lottery protected draft pick from them.

What are we thinking guys?

Do we want the Kings pick to convey this season or do we want it in a more attractive draft? The protections loosen slightly over the next couple of years.

If Sacramento falls into the play-In game, I suspect they miss the playoffs and that pick won't convey in 2024...

And circling back, we traded Huerter in 2022 to get under the tax as the primary objective. How long before this pick contributes if it conveys, 3/4 years? No contribution before Trae's next deal? For where we were and what we were trying to accomplish, this didn't do anything to help on court.

That's a fair question.

Though seeing Jaime Jaquez as a rotation player for Miami as a rookie, Brandin Podziemski as a rotation player for Golden State as a rookie, Jaylen Williams as a rookie rotation player for OKC last year does give me some hope.

I do believe an older, upperclassman can be playing by this time next year.

A less experienced, teenaged prospect... :dontknow:

What does our history the last few years tell you though? OO, JJ, AJ and now Kobe.

Looking at prospects all year, i've come to see that a "weak draft" is mostly not having a surefire cornerstone available. Most of the prospects in this draft have more question marks than your typical draft. Doesn't mean this draft lacks a player or 2 that might end up better than advertised though.

So when you say more attractive draft, I can't help but wonder if this draft is already more attractive in the lottery-mid 20's than the next 2 years will be.

I think I personally would rather have the Sac pick this year so we can grab one of the bigs.

Still unsure if I want that SAC pick to convey this year or not...

Do we think Sacramento would actually tank the Play-In matchup just to keep their draft pick?

Currently in the 8th spot.
Huerter out for rest of season and now Monk for extended time with knee.
Pick hopes are fading.

Am I misunderstanding something? Their pick is protected 1-14, meaning if it's outside the lottery it goes to the Hawks

What does the play in have to do with it? Isn't the lottery decided by regular season record?

They are currently in the 18th slot in the draft order. Wouldn't they have to fall into the top 14 by the lasr regular season game for the pick to not convey?

Now that I look closer I see that they are only 1.5 games ahead of LAL for that 14th slot. We'll see

If Sacramento loses both Play-In games, they'd miss the playoffs. Their pick falls into the lottery (top-14) and we won't receive it this summer. :-?

That's screwy. I've hated the play in thing from the beginning, but isn't the play in a post season game and the lottery slots alloted based on regular season...? If not just another reason for me to hate the play in

Yeah I get it. The two play in losers must be lottery teams....still seems stupid for a post season game to effect regular season lottery order. Like I said...
