The ceiling is high and I intend on watching every game he plays. We needed a young talent like this.

The kid's emergence is a gamechanger. We now have the size, skill set and athleticism to attack opposing front courts and dominate in transition.

Once OO is promoted and we start getting more consistent effort/production from the SF position, I believe we'll be set for the next 3-5 years in our starting five.

Jalen needs more touches.
He's a fixture on this team longterm so give him the ball.

As long as Jalen has more passion than Zion he will be fine. It won't take much.

100% agree.

It's interesting that Jalen fell in his draft because of character concerns. But as far as I can tell, he's been a boy scout since getting drafted. No complaints or issues that I've heard of since joining the NBA.

Zion went #1 in part because he was such a great kid with a sterling reputation, but has been dogged for issues of immaturity and lack of accountability since going pro.

There's a fascinating case study in there if someone was willing to chronicle their careers.

We seem to put rookies on a self and hold them back. Jalen is trying to breakout of being contained, but he gets up to 9 attempts per game, sometimes 3, or 4, so we just keep holding our frontcourt back. We give touches to players that we know won't be around even in the short term.

We really need our start player to trust some of these guys down the stretch. We all know Trae tried to play too much hero ball, but let JJ shine by dumping it off to him.

And the real benefit is that a pass like this comes from a completely different area of the court than normal.

Trae operating out of the low-post is a no-go.
Same for Dejounte.

Us being able to attack defenses from the perimeter and the interior spaces the floor just as effectively (prolly moreso) than just two point guards operating from the top of the key.

Shout out to Okongwu for hitting that bucket.

The "headcase" label came from him quitting at Duke. Really wasn't much else to be concerned about.

Nah.

There were some weird shenanigans with him leaving High School, too...

He was getting some pretty terrible advice as a teenager.

BigO wrote:Bucks fan here. I've seen Jalen Johnson in person dozens of times over the last five years, mainly in AAU ball.

The analysis of the "experts" is generally accurate. Here's my breakdown:

Transferred after I think his sophomore year from his high school near Madison to a school in the Milwaukee suburbs and basically put together (his father and others) an all star team so he could win a state championship. Then left to go to ING and then dropped out of there. Then dropped out of Duke. He has a lot of voices telling him how great he is. His father was a decent ballplayer many years ago and is understandably a big influence on him.

3 months ago, during Trae's shooting slump -- there were whispers (outright yelling, actually) that DeJounte was better and in actuality the Hawks best player.

How long until these same statements are being said about Jalen?

Best player or not....Hawks need a front court player to rise.

I still want JJ at the 3. Small ball is a gimmick, not a winning strategy. Other than that, JJ is the player that gives me the most hope. Feed him and let him grow
