With swagger missing, wins hard to come by for Hawks

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Mon Jan 7, 2008 4:58 pm

"It's hard because we've lost games in several different ways," Hawks point guard Anthony Johnson said. "It's hard to put our finger on one thing that we're not doing. That being said, we're one game out of .500 and we've been in this situation before. We're just one game away from being back on top and the locker room being in good spirits again."

"Part of the problem is we lose a few games and we sort of ... the swagger is gone," Josh Childress said. "In that stretch where we won five in a row, we'd just buckle down late in games and take care of the business at hand. So to me it's really a mental thing. It's a matter of coming out every night and taking care of our business."

But even Woodson refuses to get too wrapped up in the current slide. He made it a point to remind his team they're still very much in the mix in terms of where they want to be in the conference playoff chase.

"I agree with coach," Josh Smith said. "We're still in the playoff hunt. We're inches away from figuring this whole thing out. And we will. We'll find a solution and get back to winning."

Some good quotes from a veteran and from two young Hawks.

I agree with Childress. That's why it's so tough for young teams to win, because they've never done it before and emotions can get the best of them. A team like Detroit or San Antonio could drop 5 games in a row and not sweat it at all, they know what they have to do.

The young guys raise some nice points. Again this all points to a lack of vet leadership on this team. The guys that have won before need to keep this team focused when things are going good and when they're going bad.

It isn't about swagger. it is about poor execution, turnovers and missed shots.
