Bass has to start. His defense and basketball IQ are invaluable.

If it were KG not starting, or LeBron on the Heat, or Curry on the Warriors, etc...
You know damn well it would very much become about who's starting.
Starting matters, minutes matter. Finishing also matters.

He needs to be doing both. The only team that worries me in the east is Miami. Bass guarding LeBron or Battier out on the perimeter is a recipe for disaster. He needs to be starting so whoever LeBron is defending, the other needs to take the reins on offense. Not to mention, you start your five best players. He's easily one of them.

Well, he should play 40mins. per game in the Playoffs specifically in tight games.

Needs to be the rotation. Still plenty of minutes to be had for Bass off the bench.

100% agree with you. Start Green and let him play 35-40 minutes a night. he's ready. he can be the workhorse, a role that Rondo's filled for the past few seasons. heavy minutes...gives Doc some consistency in the rotation.

Green starts at the 4 and then shifts to the 3 eventually..doesn't really matter either way since he falls in that "hybrid" forward mold

That shows great shot selection. High value three pointers and and high efficiency close range shots.

Yup, exactly.

Come playoff time, our front court's minutes could easily look like this:

Pierce (36) / Green (12)
Green (24) / Bass (24)
Garnett (36) / Wilcox (12)

Incredible. 31 Bass minutes, 27 Green minutes.
Yeah, plus-minus blah blah blah.
How about if Green started?
Heck of a job, Doc.

I am thinking if Doc is protecting Jeff Green by controlling his minutes. Since Jeff Green returned from a major surgery, you want to make sure don't overuse him.

A lot has been said about starting Green and also about his inconsistencies. I've speculated that maybe getting further away from his surgery has helped as has maybe being more comfortable in the system at both ends. One other thing that I didn't realize is an impediment is that Green has no sets run for him in the halfcourt. All his action is off sets designed to get other people looks. After how he began last night, I thought it was criminal that he got no looks in the 2nd half. The team stopped running. And Green barely saw the ball swung his way. And Doc did nothing to change that. I put last night on Doc completely. Stayed with Crawford and Bass too long before putting back in Lee and Green. Green had a mismatch all night against Ryan Anderson out on the perimeter. They did nothing to get him open in space. Hard to be consistent scoring-wise anyway if you don't see the ball consistently.

Bass, 34, started. Green, 30, benched.

Yep, decent game for Bass on paper.
Yep, Green had 5 turnovers.

Nope, let's not ever find out what Green could do alongside the A team all game.
God forbid, he could, you know, show up Doc or something, good heavens.

4 games as a starter. 35 minutes per game.
8.5-13.8 for .618 overall. 2.0-3.3 for .615 on threes. 5.5-7.0 for .786 from the line.
24.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.3 blocks, 1.3 steals, 1.5 turnovers, 1.5 fouls

His averages off the bench are too depressing to post.

But, but, but...only 4 games! Small sample size!
And that's precisely the point.

Something to consider, when judging Green's starts:
4 starts in games where Garnett did not play.
1 start in a game where Pierce did not play.
0 starts in a game where both Pierce and Garnett played.

We need to run games for Jeff all the time, he is a system guy right now, you can play him 45 minutes and Mede his shot 11 times, that's just absurd, PP, KG and Jordan can all create their shots, run plays for Green...

Hmmm, definitely not against this. Jeff Green is not capable of creating his own shots at the moment. IMO, he's our 2nd or 3rd option offensively right now depending on our opponent, and some plays should be ran through him.

But I remember something like this was asked from Doc before and he mentioned in an interview that it would be difficult to create something new and draw different offensive plays during the regular season. I take this as he'll use Green more during the playoffs.

Would be a huge gamble but right now I think we are hiding a lot waiting for the playoffs...
