He dislikes the Celtics from his Knicks playing days, I'm sure the natural rivalry of the teams was a big part of his relishing the 2010 victory. I believe part of it also has to do with his Knicks coach, Red Holzman, and Red Auerbach. I read about it once, but I can't remember the particulars; I think something about his coach not getting enough respect or he considered him better than Auerbach, not really sure.

Red Auerbach was also fond of sticking it to/diminishing Jackson's accomplishments by saying that his teams were "ready made" where as Red basically did everything including putting the teams together. There's also the basic competition for making history; Red had the most championships and Phil passed him. It was the crowning achievement of his record 11 titles and I'm sure he would have loved Red to be around for a big FU. After losing to the Celtics in the Finals, I'm sure that also helped. Celtics-Lakers, the best rivalry in sports (in some people's eyes). One of only two teams that beat him in the Finals, essentially the same team as well, maybe the best team he had beaten in the Finals? (Didn't look that one up.)

I guess "And?" because a lot of those reasons are obvious, the Red ones more so if you're a Cs fan, I guess. But I mean it could be summed up as FU to Red Auerbach, Celtics-Lakers rivalry, and redemption for his last Finals loss.

IDK. I don't even care about Phil Jack anymore. MJ & Pip gave him 6 & Shaq & Kobe gave him 3. The refs helped out on at least 2 (02&10).

I know he was great, dealt with a lot, but still the talent he was walking into was incredible. Love to see what he could do with the bobcats.

and id love to see what kobe would do without Shaq or Bynum + Gasol + odom frontcourts and now Howard+gasol

I got no problem with that. That's the kind of feeling that real rivalries should inspire, pro sports needs less love for opponents.

As much as even coming close to thinking about that game/series makes me want to scratch my eyeballs out ..

I take that as kind of a compliment.

(Though I bet part of it too may be that Phil didn't consider that one of his 'best' title-winning teams, so eeking one out/'stealing' one would add to the sweetness of beating a long-standing rival).

(Will now contemplate scratching my eyeballs out)
