Miami, to put it mildly, is a strong team.
Chicago won one more playoff series than the Celtics did, and have Derrick Rose coming back.
Indiana has already won two more playoff series than the Celtics did, and has Danny Granger coming back.
That's what the Celtics are up against next season, and likely for a few years after that.

Re: 3 teams to get by in the East
I'd add that Paul George is rapidly ascending into stardom, Stephenson has intriguing potential, and the Pacers overall are a very well run organization.
MIA, CHI, and IND look like a formidable top 3 for the foreseeable future.

You gotta make it sexy! Hips and nips, otherwise I'm not eating.

Re: 3 teams to get by in the East
IND didn't have Danny Granger this year either. Add him off the bench to give that team some firepower.
CHI didn't have Derrick Rose. Enough said there.
2 of the top 3 teams had major loses that will be back next season. And both the Bulls plus Pacers are young enough they shouldn't see any regression at all. Heat are still unfortunately too young to regress either.
They should enjoy the East. We'll rebuild.

Brooklyn New York Atlanta all had much better seasons than the Cs. Not sure what the point it.

Assume a healthy Rondo and I'm OK with our chances against any of those teams. Anyhow, my point is -- or assumes -- that they're not the standard that needs to be beat. The three teams I named are the big challenges.

Ok ill bite
Chicago didnt have derrick rose? , and they still made it to the 2nd round
Chicago made it to the 2nd round because the nets are bad/ and or choked (game 3 i think up by 13 with 3 minutes)
With Rose and the top record in the League in 2011 the bulls lost in 5 games to a miami team that didnt win the championship. they had a healthy team and asik as a backup center, how is next years team going to have a better shot at what the 2011 bulls team couldnt do, unless they make drastic improvments(like trading boozer for all-star big or bringing in a hof type level talent not in his prime like a KG or PP)
Chicago is going to lose Nate robinson , and maybe even belinelli. so i dont see them much more then they have been
Granger and the pacers? The pacers need to clear up some money to resign David west(fa) and soon to be fa(paul george) so i dont see how granger fits in, he already doesnt fit with the emergence of paul george and him coming off an injury.
I dont see any reason how if the celtics somehow add a good all-star player or fringe all-star they wouldnt be the 2nd best team in the east next year with Rajon Rondo also coming back

Challenges yes but if boston adds some players with rondo coming back they could be in that same group even clear cut above since they would have players that have acually won a championship and played in championships
something neither the bulls core or pacers core have done, and i dont anticipate them doing(they wont beat miami)
