THE NBA is shortening the game to 44 minuets as a test run to see if they want to make it permanent.

I'm gonna watch, but I plan to continue my 26 year boycott of all Knick games that aren't vs. the Celtics.

I DVR the games anyway---and SKIP all the commercials...so the NBA can kiss my ass with any changes they make to the game.

I don't know why a Knicks fan would care about a Celtics pre season game anyway. So, enjoy your boycott. I'll watch the game though.

I am by no means a master of communication, but I would have thought it was possible to send the NBA a message in a variety of mediums. Like say a..... letter. Or an email. Or a nice phone call. Smoke signals? Carrier pigeon? Wear a sandwich board?

It's dumb idea but who cares? The total viewers for this game will barely be anything. If they want to change it they'll change it. Its Sunday. There's this sport called gridiron aka football aka no one even knows this is on outside realgm.

I don't think it will make an impact on how many people watch honestly. Though less basketball is never a good thing.

I am fine with shorter games and a shorter schedule as long as the players paychecks are smaller.....whatever LeBron said really ticked me off. He wants a shorter season??? Okay, how about less in your paycheck. Do you still want a shorter season? I mean, I want to work less hours too..

Tony Parker has said the most logical thing amongst all the players who want a shortened season - get rid of half the preseason games, and start the season 2 weeks earlier so that the current 82 game schedule isn't packed in such a short amount of time.

As for the revolt against the players - shortening the season isn't the players' idea. These players are being asked about it in response to the 44 minute games, and they are giving their honest responses. However, if you really want to blame someone for shortening games, the season, etc - blame the owners who are trying to accomodate ESPN/ABC/Turner etc. Why? Because on average, games run about 2 hours and 15 minutes. TV execs dream of having basketball games end in under 2 hours. Why? Because it allows them to slot another program in immediately after. If games end in 2 hours and 15 minutes, then they have 15 minutes of filler. End a game in under 2 hours and they have enough airtime to put on another show.

TL;DR version - it's not the players' idea to shorten the games/season - it's the league, who are trying to accomodate ESPN/ABC/Turner/local TV stations

Didn't Rondo's ACL tear happen in the last four minutes of regulation in that Hawks game? I know they only tried it for pacing reasons, but if they have any data to back that players are more likely to get injured in the last few minutes of the game, the NBA should pursue it more. So many major PG injuries over the past few years. I know back to backs probably player a larger impact, but getting stretched out an extra four minutes every game probably doesn't help either.
